In Aiding Poor, Edwards Built Bridge to 2008
The New York Times ^ | 6/22/07 | Leslie Wayne

John Edwards ended 2004 with a problem: how to keep alive his public profile without the benefit of a presidential campaign that could finance his travels and pay for his political staff.

Mr. Edwards, who reported this year that he had assets of nearly $30 million, came up with a novel solution, creating a nonprofit organization with the stated mission of fighting poverty. The organization, the Center for Promise and Opportunity, raised $1.3 million in 2005, and — unlike a sister charity he created to raise scholarship money for poor students — the main beneficiary of the center’s fund-raising was Mr. Edwards himself, tax filings show.

A spokesman for Mr. Edwards defended the center yesterday as a legitimate tool against poverty.

The organization became a big part of a shadow political apparatus for Mr. Edwards after his defeat as the Democratic vice presidential nominee in 2004 and before the start of his presidential bid this time around. Its officers were members of his political staff, and it helped pay for his nearly constant travel, including to early primary states.

You see, poverty will be eradicated once Silky Pony becomes President. Also the crippled will walk, the blind will see, extinct species will recover, and the planet will cool down.

The most cost effective way to accomplish all of these goals is to elect John Edwards. So it is completely appropriate that money donated towards these causes should be directed into John Edwards' political slush fund, where it will do the most good.

The New York Times looks schizophrenic on this one. Of course, it is a hit piece on Edwards, ordered by ... ahem ... another candidate. On the other hand, the Headline Editor tries his best to spin it favorably for Edwards. The article itself alternates between a fairly straightforward treatment of the diversion of poverty funds to filthy rich political operatives and inserts about how Edwards is raising "awareness" and accomplishing great things in the fight against poverty ... by enriching filthy rich political operatives.

He will not get the same "Yeah, he's a crook, but he's so dashing and likable" treatment that Bubba got back in 1992.

The Hillary! Rodham (Clinton) slime machine is going to crush him.

edweirds is just like a TV Evangelist named Reverend Ike... used to be in Atlanta area I think. Ike drove a Rolls and he would come on in $5000.00 suits and wearing Rolex watches and say, “The best way that I can help poor people... is by NOT being one of them”!

31,000 square foot mansion, $400.00 haircuts, cucumber eye treatments and only GOD knows what else this POS spends money on primping... he is so far from the poor that you can’t get there from where edweirds is. What an elitist phony this nancyboy truly is!

Don't underestimate this. A lot of gimme-gimme malingerers see trial lawyers as godlike figures. You should see how they're praised over on the DUmmies board.

Thank goodness that the majority of American society doesn't see them this way, but "lawyer" shows like "The Practice" and "Boston Legal" are there to re-educate the public in this regard.

Mr. Edwards, a former North Carolina senator, set out to keep his political options open by promoting issues he cared about, like poverty... “He wanted to learn, travel and be in a position to be a viable candidate,” said J. Edwin Turlington, a Raleigh lawyer who was the manager of Mr. Edward’s 2003 presidential exploratory committee. “He had the ability to raise money to fund his activities. He had a vision, and he knew it would take money.” ... Mr. Edwards mixed policy and politics in a way that allowed his supporters to donate to the causes he believed in — and to the organizations he had set up.

Shades of Hillary! Rodham (Clinton)'s infamous 2000 "NY Listening Tour".

very sad that a large part of the electorate believes it, thanks to the miracle of insidious propaganda. (major barf bag event in 2008 when hillary! wins while carrying the same banner before the forces of salvation...a major, major big barf bag event.)

Well, if Edwards is elected, you can bet the MSM will immediately start pretending that the poor, homeless and crippled don’t exist, and that there is no such thing as endangered species, and that Global Warming wasn’t such a big deal after all.

All of these issues are clubs, to be used to beat up on Repubicans. Once a Democrat is President, they are put away for use on another day.

“You should see how they’re praised over on the DUmmies board.”
Lawyers are seen on TV programs sending evil white rich people to jail and suing evil white rich people for millions to give to poor families.

No wonder multi-culti socialists love them.

Cheat. Cheat. Cheat. Cheat. Cheat. Cheat. Cheat. Cheat.

The more rules there are, the more ways there are to cheat. A highly regulated environment favors a sharp operator like Silky Pony, who can walk the edge.

It also grants inordinate power to regulators, who can choose to punish some ('Pubbies) while letting others ('Rats) slide.

It is from the New York Times. The Barf Alert can be inferred.

That said, it does take the Silky Haired Former Senator to task, in a very gentle way, for diverting money obsensibly meant to help to the poor to his political campaign.

>> A lot of gimme-gimme malingerers see trial lawyers as godlike figures.

And they’re infuriating. (the malingerers as well as the trial lawyers)

But, chin up, they’re a relatively small percentage of Americans. They have money, but not votes. And the rest of us despise them.

Edwards doesn’t really have a snowball’s chance.

Edwards’ best hope is to make people see him less as a trial lawyer and more as some kind of campaigner-without-office for the poor and oppressed. He just has to hope that nobody wonders where all that money came from.

The funny thing is, if he were willing to live a humble lifestyle, just for a little while, he could have all the power he craves. But he has to blow it by buying mega mansions and spending money on pedicures and thousand dollar haircuts.

And of course, he has to pay for the pedicures through the Center for Promise and Opportunity, literally stealing money from the poor, rather than take the money out of his own pocket...

It is going to be a race to see if the MSM can destroy the country before they themselves become extinct.

I am an optimist, so I think the MSM will drive themselves into obscurity before they can do irreparable harm.

Edwards doesn’t really have a snowball’s chance.

I certainly expect him to waddle into the Rat convention with anywhere between 25 and 33 percent of the delegates that have been awarded by that point. He's had years (including his almost successful 2004 nomination race) to build a base of sympathizers, who cannot see that he is just a rich pretty boy.

He's the Sanjaya of the Rat Party!
