re: Somehow I have lost any sympathy I ever had for this man.
I find it hard to accept that he has gone down exactly the same path that his father tread before being defeated by Bill Clinton.
I am still very thankful for the job he has done in protecting us from further attacks, but in a lot of respects he has been nothing less than a disaster for conservatives who have supported him for five years or more.
It’s getting to the point for me that I’m starting to think we have avoided another 9/11 DESPITE GWB, rather than because of him.
I'm wondering if conservatives will keep falling for this ruse over and over. Frankly, instead of having the right to say, "I told you so!", I would have rather had been wrong and had President Bush change into a conservative during his time in office.* But as I've said many times, it's not like he's changed his position on us--he telegraphed his immigration views for even the 2000 election.
The question remains, "how do we determine ahead of time whether we're just being pandered to during the primary/first term?" Can we believe Romney/Thompson moves to the right (or away from globalism, or whatever claim is made by a candidate seeking our support)?
*...though I also could have done without all the flaming I used to take from BushBots! :-)
