Consumer Advisory Consumers Cautioned to Check Hershey Chocolate Products
The Canadian Food Inspection Agency ^ | June 15, 2007 | Canadian Food Inspection Agency

Posted on 06/17/2007 1:49:17 PM PDT by fanfan

OTTAWA, June 15, 2007 - The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) and Hershey Canada are advising the public that certain Hershey chocolate products previously recalled on November 12, 2006, may have been recently distributed to retail outlets.

Consumers are advised to check their Hershey products to ensure they do not bear codes that begin with numbers ranging from 6417 to 6455 inclusive.

Various Hershey chocolate products manufactured by Hershey Canada Inc. bearing codes beginning with numbers ranging from 6417 to 6455 inclusive were recalled for possible Salmonella contamination on November 12, 2006. For a completed list of recalled products associated with the affected codes see the CFIA website at http://www.inspection.gc.ca/english/corpaffr/recarapp/2006/20061112e.shtml.

On Tuesday, June 12, 2007, Toronto Police arrested two men in Toronto in possession of recalled Hershey’s chocolate products. As a result of a consumer complaint, on June 15, 2007 a number of Hershey chocolate products were discovered for sale at a retail store in Lindsay, Ontario. The Police investigation into the matter is continuing and it is unclear at this time if the two incidents are related.

There have been no reported illnesses associated with the consumption of these products.

Food contaminated with Salmonella may not look or smell spoiled. Consumption of food contaminated with this bacteria may cause salmonellosis, a foodborne illness. In young children, the elderly and people with weakened immune systems, salmonellosis may cause serious and sometimes deadly infections. In otherwise healthy people, salmonellosis may cause short-term symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, vomiting, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea. Long-term complications may include severe arthritis.

For more information, consumers and industry can call one of the following numbers:

Hershey’s Consumer Relations at 1-800-468-1714.

CFIA at 1-800-442-2342 / TTY 1-800-465-7735 (8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Eastern time, Monday to Friday).

That’s just what I was thinking today.

I was talking with Blam the other day about how lucky we are to live ‘now’, and I thought further that we can go to the grocery store and buy fresh fruit and vegetables from all over the world, seafood, and spices unheard of one hundred years ago, and then I remembered.

It all comes from China now.

Or the Hershey plant. ;-)

Just a month or two ago Hershey’s announced they were moving their factories to China. We have a lot of reason to worry now...

Hershey’s chocolate has always sucked — it’s almost pure sugar — closer to stale icing than to chocolate.

Good chocolate is loaded with cocoa butter.

LOL!

Who is this “Hershey” person you all speak of? I’m a Lindt fan, since my days in Germany in the mid-80’s.

Nothing less than 80% pure touches this tongue. ;)
