Social Security "No Match" Tool Kit ^ | current letters | Social Security Administration

Posted on 06/15/2007 9:09:23 AM PDT by rface

Important: You should not use this letter to take any adverse action against an employee, such as laying off, suspending, firing, or discriminating against that individual, just because his or her Social Security number appears on the list. Doing so could, in fact, violate State or Federal law and subject you to legal consequences. This letter does not imply that you or your employee intentionally gave the government wrong information about the employee’s name or Social Security number. Nor does it make any statement about an employee’s immigration status.

Social Security Administration Retirement, Survivors, and Disability Insurance Employer Correction Request CODE V

Office of Central Operations 300 N. Greene Street Baltimore, MD 21290-0300 Date: EIN:

EMPLOYER’S NAME STREET ADDRESS CITY, STATE ZIP

Establishment Number MRN: WFID:

Why You Are Getting This Letter

Some employee names and Social Security numbers that you reported on the Wage and Tax Statements (Forms W-2) for tax year 2005 do not agree with our records. We need corrected information from you so that we can credit your employees’ earnings to their Social Security records. It is important because these records can determine if someone is entitled to Social Security retirement, disability and survivors benefits, and how much he or she can receive. If the information you report to us is incorrect, your employee may not get benefits he or she is due.

There are several common reasons why the information reported to us does not agree with out records, including:

Errors were made in spelling an employee’s name of listing the Social Security number;

An employee did not report a name change following a marriage or divorce; and

The name or Social Security number was incomplete or left blank on the Form W-2 report sent to the Social Security Administration.

Important: This letter does not imply that you or your employee intentionally gave the government wrong information about the employee’s name or Social Security number. Nor does it make any statement about an employee’s immigration status.

Hannity had a caller the other day that was talking about a "No Match Letter" he received from the Social Security Office. It made me search for what this letter was about.

.

three examples of letters the SSA sends to employers and employees:

DECOR employee letter (Letter SSA sends to directly to workers)

DECOR employer letter (Letter SSA sends to employers about an individual worker)

EDCOR letter (Letter SSA sends to employers about a group of workers)

The management people at SSA are charter members in the open borders lobby. They should all be fired and replaced by real Americans.

Dear Business Owner -

You will be subject to severe penalties if you

a) Employ illegal aliens.
b) Inquire as to the legal immigration status of your employees.

These are people who are in the SS system, but the names don’t match the numbers.

There are 9.5 MILLION of these in teh system, according to the Social Security Administration. Useful information for those who say we “can’t find” the 12-20 million illegals in this country. These 9.5 million would be a darn good tart.

I had no idea they were still sending those out. It has been a great many years since I last saw one.

Yes. Most “illegals” actually work in real jobs, paying taxes on “borrowed” SS#’s. Reform proposals all include paying benefits for those who worked illegally in this way.

Most folks don’t realize that this problem is far easier to solve than has been described so far. No jobs, no immigration problem- simple.

We need real ID, real penalties against employers, and idemnification against liability for employers who take action.

So, they send you a letter with information, then advise you NOT to use the information? Sounds like typical gub’mint doublespaek to me!

It would be useless in most cases, anyway. This letter is received after W-2's are filed, which is long after harvest season, or even a construction job is finished. Besides, "Juan" will show up next year with a new SSN, anyway.

Gee I'm surprised the sent a letter normally they don't bother...

I had an illegal using my ssn to report for five years.. the IRS, SSA, and California Franchise Tax board could care less

In was the California Franchise Tax that told me by mistake... went to their office to get copy's of reported income for the last five years...give them my SSN and the worker ask are you (Hispanic name) that works at (so n so) Medal Works in Santa Ana CA?.... I say "No" and the say "Oh".... you must be (my name)...

I ask "you have two name very different names at different locals and different jobs reporting full time income under the same ssn and the same time and you do not check or raise a red flag?"...Per them "No, and we are not suppose to tell you either"

Went to the SSA office gave them my ssn and ask "Do you have more them one name reporting under this SSN?" Was told..."We would not tell you that"...

This is just more Anti-American pro-illegal alien nonsense.

This letter, and SSA attitude, doesnt surprise me.

It is illegal for employers to hire illegals....however, employers cant inquire whether someone is legal until AFTER they are hired.

More pro-illegal alien nonsense

This is what the people who think that employer sanction's will solve the illegal alien problem don't understand. I've taken a few classes on how to follow the federal immigration laws, and it's an impossible situation for small businesses, the way the law is written now.

Imagine yourself as a small businessperson, receiving this letter. How exactly do you deal with it?. You can't fire them, it's clearly against the law as defined in the letter.

If you do, you can face not only the government fines, but just imagine if your employee gets a lawyer and files a discrimination suit against you ? There are armies of lawyers out there looking for soft underbellies, like yours, to make a killing.

Secondly, did you know that the SSA's own information is wrong 20% of the time ? There are all sorts of reasons, other than illegal hood, that can cause non-matches.

It could be as simple as a maiden name (and lots of Hispanics use two last names); a father/son or other relative with the same name, a case of identity theft ( but who is the thief, and who is the victim, and how are you supposed to know ? the only information you have is a non-match letter), and the burden of proof is on you.

You can't just fire them upon suspicion, you must have legal proof. This requires a lawyer, but you're a small business. You can't afford to hire a lawyer just to do legal searches on employee's backgrounds. it's not cost effective.

You can't run their info before you hire them, that's not allowed.

And, you can't fire them, according to the letter above.
