In my opinion, islam is to peace as Hillary Clinton is to honesty, or Arlen Specter is to conservatism. It's as far from a peaceful religion as you can get.
Rape as a punishment (in islam and in many tribal areas) is common. Shari'a sentences often call for the gang-rape of a female relative for family transgressions.
