More taxes. Like we don't pay enough. We are the 6th highest in the nation for taxes.

Taxes will continue to go up, UNTIL, the point that it actually affects smoking.

Our “Republican” governor just did the same thing. I’m quitting, but this is unrelated to the tax increase. I’m also quitting voting for anti-smoking zealots. So I guess he can get re-elected without my vote.

“The Legislature’s budget-writing committee agrees to increase the tax from $.77 per pack to $2.02.”

The black market that will develop almost instantly will baffle these left-wingers. They’ll talk about it endlessly, claiming not to understand why the sudden increase in smuggling and related crimes and screaming that the state budget can’t stand the decrease in revenues, revenues lower than before the tax was imposed. Morons all.

You know, I hate to talk about the rope in the home of a hanged man, but don’t take it in that sense, please.

The governor of Nebraska, the Republican David Heinemann, just signed the largest tax-cut in the history of Nebraska, some $425 million.

Now, $425 million might seem chump change, but remember, we’re much smaller than Wisconsin.

This was the first session of the Nebraska legislature operating under term limits. Of the 49 state senators this year (Nebraska has only one house), 22 of the 49 were brand-new, and 20 of those 22 had NO prior legislative experience at all, even on a local school board or something.

There were dire predictions that with so many state senators new to the job, they would become “putty” in the hands of the lobbyists.

Instead, they appear to have eviscerated the lobbyists, discarding state spending that doesn’t work, or benefits only a few special interests.

Term limits.

They work.

Democrat, socialist, stalinist sanctimonius tax gobblers at work stealing $$ from legal Wi. cheeseheads. When smoking declines and the tax revenues associated with it decline too will the democrat legislatures adjust to lower revenues?
NOT....they are addicted to revenue from taxes and will tap the shortfall via more taxes taken from elsewhere. Insidious leeches and stupid sheeple (alive and dead) keep electing these fools.

The POS governor and his flacks in Madison will tax anything. They are even taxing hospitals. Rotten stinking dems. Hey smokers go to Illinois. Have friend in low tax states have them send you some. Do what you can to screw the governor.

I would like to propose fortyseven million dollars a pack. You may think that is unrealistic, but if we just sell one pack a month...

/hey it could happen

Hello, Wisconsin citizens. This is merely the beginning. Our wonderful communist governor here in your neighbor state of Michigan wants to tax haircuts, drinking water sold to businesses and the fish you catch in lakes.

Expect the same or worse in your lovely state. A byproduct of the taxes on everything will be tens of thousands of productive citizens leaving your state, as businesses close shop and flee.

Good luck and keep those those muskies growing, unless the state taxes them out of existence.

It’s worse than that. The state “Tobacco Settlement” was already the largest transference of wealth _ever_ in this country. Think about that.

But that’s not enough - albeit hardly any of the settlement monies go to health care or “antismoking” programs. They are just getting warmed up.

I hope the state’s Indian tribes open tribal smoke shops in all of Wisconsin’s major cities and thumb their noses at the white man’s tax. I’m also sure cigarette bootlegging will become a major business.

It’s going to happen. The WI GOP has no spine whatsoever.

The only one that can save us in Mark Walker...in another three years. Maybe. :(

I’d like to introduce legislation to ban tobacco from our state once and for all. Think that’ll happen? Nope. State Governments are totally hooked on tobacco revenues. If they ever succeed in banning tobacco, we’ll then be the #1 state for the highest taxes.

They always seem to tax cigarettes, I would love to see these folks tax alcohol for a change. Raise the tax on beer and liquor. But NO, they ALL drink! I bet you would never see that happen! Don’t plan on getting as much tax as you think! You will see people starting to quit. Just not worth it. I will quit now! Maybe you’ll have to tax the liquor industry. Yea Right!
