You can add Huckabee and Brownback, both, since they are anti smoking zealots.

“It doesn’t make sense.....ban smoking in public places but raise the tax on those of us who smoke. He should either do one or another if he wants to make money.”

No it doesn’t! People are quitting or because of the bans, cutting way back. How could it be otherwise. When either happens, they don’t get the tax money, so they increase the tax. The whole in that tax account is going to just get bigger and bigger. While they promise to use this nonexistant money to pay for everything from health care for others, to schools, to fighting obesity.

A lot of friends who smoke, not onlysmoke less, they buy a whole lot less. Take into account those who roll their own, where is all this tax money for this account going to come from?

Taxes will continue to go up, UNTIL, the point that it actually affects smoking”

It actually has affected smoking throughout the USA.
That has caused a serious decrease in the amount of cigarette taxes that most states have used as their basic revenue for their base budgets for years. Now that they are getting less and less in cigarette taxes, they are raising the tax on the people who still smoke.
I don’t care one way or the other whether someone smokes what is basically a legal product. But I would like legislation that says that ANY smoking related illness or disease cannot and will not be paid for by any taxpayer money. I would also include a smoker not being able to get funds from their insurance company, either.
That way- smoke all you want-—and it will be totally your risk and financial responsibility.
It will -or should- reduce insurance rates. Or- at the very least- give a hugh insurance deduction of premium on NON-smokers in all categories.

They always seem to tax cigarettes, I would love to see these folks tax alcohol for a change. Raise the tax on beer and liquor. But NO, they ALL drink! I bet you would never see that happen! Don’t plan on getting as much tax as you think! You will see people starting to quit. Just not worth it. I will quit now! Maybe you’ll have to tax the liquor industry. Yea Right!
