Graham still hopeful despite stinging defeat (Vampire Bill Alert)

WASHINGTON — Sen. Lindsey Graham insisted Friday that Congress will pass comprehensive immigration reforms even as other senators ribbed him for having dubbed “the grand bargain” that crashed and burned.

A day after suffering a major legislative defeat, Graham minimized as “a bump in the road” the Senate’s failure Thursday to act on an immigration bill he helped craft.

“We’re inside the 10-yard line, and we’ve got four downs,” Graham said at a Capitol briefing. “I like our chances.”

Sen. Edward M. Kennedy, the Massachusetts Democrat who managed the immigration measure during its two weeks on the Senate floor, used a different sports analogy in making a more cautious forecast.

“We are in the third or fourth inning on this,” he said.

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., pulled the immigration bill Thursday evening after two attempts to end debate were defeated, the second bid by 15 votes.

At a post-mortem Friday filled with gallows humor, Graham joined other primary sponsors of the immigration measure: Democratic Sens. Kennedy and Dianne Feinstein of California, and Republican Sens. John Kyl of Arizona and Arlen Specter of Pennsylvania.

The senators said their party leaders had instructed them to come up with a list of amendments that would help the bill’s prospects for passage, along with a schedule for the Senate to consider them.

“Within a matter of weeks, this issue can and will be resolved,” Graham said.

Graham threatened to obstruct other legislation if the Senate doesn’t take up the immigration bill again.

“We’re inside the 10-yard line, and we’ve got four downs,” Graham said at a Capitol briefing.

More like they are at the 35 and at second down. Still a possibility, but it's gonna take a failure by the defense to give up more than a field goal.

Its amazing how our politicians believe they can do the impossible six ways from Sunday... when it interests them. Most of the time, they couldn't attend to the nation's business if you asked them to. But when it comes to amnesty, they're gung ho and primed for action.

Hopefully, by this time next year he’ll be stinging from his defeat in the Republican primary.

Graham threatened to obstruct other legislation if the Senate doesn’t take up the immigration bill again.

That could be a real win-win situation.

Cedric, I thought that you would benefit from reading this article.

Oh what I would give for the opportunity to address this dim wit directly!

The arrogance of Flimsy Graham boggles the mind. The guy seems to think that his role as a Senator is to impose his will on all of us with no consideration to the concerns of his constituents. The sooner South Carolinians can find a viable opponent to challenge him in the primary, the better off the American people will be.

I am a republican voter who lives in the upstate of South Carolina.

I would like to take part in a protest outside the Greenville SC offices of Lindsey Graham.

I feel like a protest by Republicans at a Republican headquearters would help wake Linsdey Graham up!

Anyone know of any such planned protest. All I need is a day and time and I will be there.

I read that there is a movement to unseat this whining fool of a Senator during the next primary.

I will donate to whoever runs against this silly, pompous windbag.

South Carolina, vote this guy out and get rid of his gasbag garbage.
