CBO: Bill would only reduce illegals by 25%

June 4, 2007

DEVELOPING / 6:13 p.m.

The Senate's immigration bill will only reduce illegal immigration by about 25 percent a year, according to a new Congressional Budget Office report, Stephen Dinan will report Tuesday in The Washington Times.

The bill's new guest-worker program could lead to at least 500,000 more illegal immigrants within a decade, said the report from the CBO, which said in its official cost estimate that it assumes some future temporary workers will overstay their time in the plan, adding up to a half-million by 2017 and 1 million by 2027.

This is the “fix” that McCain is defending. Who would pay for a car repair that was only 25% finished? Why would anyone in their right minds vote for a senator who supports this travesty?

Oh, okay, it’s a CBO report, the number is a gross underestimate. Amnesty proponents never like to talk in absolute numbers.

Abolishing the INS/ICE would be an improvement on the status quo. At present, it seems the only people who are kept out are the ones we should be most willing to allow in.

Congressional Budget Office

I propose moving the CBO down to the Rio Grande Valley here in Texas. Anyone in favor of same, please address a tortilla to your congressman demanding the move.

Hey, not a problem! In 2018 we can pass some new laws to fix it again.

I believe a big part of the illegals problem is that our current laws aren’t enforced.

It’s already illegal to sneak into this country.
It’s already illegal to work in this country if you are here illegally.

It’s already illegal for employers to hire people here illegally.

It’s already illegal to overstay a tourist or student visa and stay here.

All of the major ways that illegals get here and stay here are already against the law.

If our laws had been consistently enforced over the years, our illegals problem would not be nearly as bad as it has become.

>>And in a blow to President Bush's timetable, the CBO said the "triggers" -- setting up the verification system, deploying 20,000 U.S. Border Patrol agents to duty and constructing hundreds of miles of fencing and vehicle barriers -- won't be met until 2010.<<

No problemo.

>>20 shall become effective on the date that the Secretary submits a written

21 certification to the President and the Congress that the following

22 border security and other measures are funded, in place, and in

23 operation:<<

That's DHS Secretary, right? Chertoff will have no problem certifying all triggers are satisfied, regardless of the true status. (Remember DHS lying under oath about Ramos/Compeam?) But suppose a nuke goes off in Washington and suddenly we get honest folks in the Executive Branch. All the illegals are here to stay anyway because they got instant legalization.

It's like letting your kids run wild and then trying to put some limits on them when they are 16.

Un put about 100 snipers on the border and I bet we can reduce illegal entry about 99% for 1/1000 of the cost of this bill. They don’t even have to shoot anyone, just the threat. I’m tired of hearing we can’t stop illegal entry. If the government can’t (or won’t) stop it then we are no longer a sovereign nation.

Thes numbers are a crock. Jeff Session laid all this out in detail on the Senate floor next year. He predicted 200 million within 20 years!
