but would a pipeline actually blow up? Or would it require a opening inside the pipeline to get air insdie to blow it up?

I know of some that were above ground that did some pretty nasty things when they blew up....but worst imaginable....give me a break.

Look now. We can't have questions. Just accept it was 'one of the most chilling imaginable'. Why? Because a government official told you so and that's all you need to know.

Defeitas sought help in carrying out a plan and went to an FBI informant, who gathered information about the plot.....One law enforcement official said: "[There was] credible intent to commit violence but it was not operational."

Course I'm not going to comment this sounds vaguely familiar. Like the pizza delivery boy who asked the FBI informant to lead his small band in attacking a military installation. One would think if he was so gung ho and knowledgeable he wouldn't have to ask the FBI informant to lead them. Nope not going to say it. That would be 'unpatriotic'....Not to going to ask what defines 'credible intent' either.

Sheesh, can't the government come up with more believable acts? These stories are just getting ridiculous.

Perhaps, the idea was to use conventional explosives to rupture the pipeline, whereupon a raging fire would ensue. I would think/hope, however, these pipelines aren’t located in the basements of the airline concourses.

I can’t answer whether the pipeline would blow, but the fuel pipelines at JFK and LaGuardia are fed by sub street pipelines that run throughout Queens from unloading points like the Newtown Creek. If you travel western Queens you can see the warning signs that high pressure very flammable fuel lines are passing under foot. If they could blow them the damage may have gone well beyond the confines of JFK.
