UPDATE: Jack Kevorkian left prison after eight years. He was greeted by CBS reporter Mike Wallace -- who gave him a hug.
COLDWATER, Mich. (AP) - Jack Kevorkian, the retired pathologist dubbed "Dr. Death" after claiming he had participated in at least 130 assisted suicides, left prison after eight years Friday still believing people have the right to die.
A smiling Kevorkian said the release was "one of the high points of life" as he paused near a white van that was waiting for him. He was accompanied by "60 Minutes" correspondent Mike Wallace and wore a blue sweater, striped shirt, striped tie, gray slacks, white socks and black shoes.
Throughout the 1990s, Kevorkian challenged authorities to make his actions legal - or try to stop him. He burned state orders against him and showed up at court in costume.
"You think I'm going to obey the law? You're crazy," he said in 1998 shortly before he was accused - and then convicted - of murder after injecting lethal drugs into Thomas Youk, 52, an Oakland County man suffering from Lou Gehrig's disease..........

It looks like Jack is already re-building his client base.

Is it really wise for Mike to get with 10 miles of The New Angel Of Death?

Maybe Mike is in the market for the “doctor’s” services.

Maybe we’ll get lucky and the next time ole’ Mike gets depressed, he’ll call his buddy Kevorkian. /s

I actually felt bad for the way he was treated in prison. Twenty three and a half hours a day locked in a small room? Just way too harsh. Same thing with the BP agents for a while at least. I would just freak out and die.

There was a camera running, so Mike jumped in front of it.

He’s also going to be on Larry King-Live(?), so methinks you may be on to something...

If that’s the way they treat a guy who simply murdered a bunch of people, I bet they’re real mean to the litterbugs.

I think Mike W. and CBS are safe. As I recall, Dr. Kevorkian said that he was retiring because ‘work wasn’t fun anymore.’

I think you misunderstood. He actually said “this job can be murder sometimes.”

Not a fan of Dr. Death but he was in a gray area of the law. Actually he did everything but pull the trigger . And there lies the problem. He is different than some one who murders some old guy to steal his wallet. I was fine with him going to jail. Just think that solitary confinement was too much.

Wallace has looked cadaverous for the last 30 years.

Right. He killed for pleasure.

I see a big difference between murdering people and assisting in their suicides. I bet many, many law abiding people can imagine themselves assisting a loved one with a suicide if the circumstances warranted it.
