For Democrats, Debate on Fox Reveals Divide [Dem leaders shun black caucus debate]
The New York Times ^ | May 27, 2007 | RAYMOND HERNANDEZ and JACQUES STEINBERG

Four years ago, the leaders of the Congressional Black Caucus began looking for a television outlet to co-sponsor and broadcast a presidential debate to address the concerns of minority voters.

Only one news channel made an acceptable proposal, and an unlikely channel at that: Fox News...

...the decision of Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton of New York, Senator Barack Obama of Illinois, and former Senator John Edwards of North Carolina to shun the debate...

... the withdrawal by the candidates frustrated members of the black caucus...

Not only has Fox given over precious air time for the debate, but an examination shows that its parent company, News Corporation, has also taken other steps to reach out to the group’s constituency, including making campaign donations to the caucus and its members and creating internship programs at predominantly black colleges.

By design or not, News Corporation also gained currency among black and Hispanic leaders by helping orchestrate a campaign to increase the participation of minority viewers in the television ratings system...

...the relationship between the black caucus and Fox News remains beneficial enough to both sides that the caucus continues to insist the show will go on in September...

Democratic advocates, meanwhile, especially with those affiliated with Moveon.org, have sought to drive a wedge between the caucus and Fox News.

Fox’s proposal included broadcasting the debates in prime time, giving the caucus a say in selecting moderators and covering much of the production cost...

Mr. Meeks acknowledged that Fox, in partnering with the caucus on the debates, seemed to be trying to do a little image-building. But he said at least Fox was willing to sponsor the debate, when no other network would.

“Fox was trying to at least give the appearance they could be what their slogan is: fair and balanced,” he said. “I would have to give them their due.”

How so typical of liberals, Fox at least will step up and sponsor the debate, “branded” with the Black Cacaus’s trademark, and allow the cacaus to choose the moderators, and even still, rather than say “Thank You very much” to Fox, the libs are demanding that free airtime and production costs are not enough.

Liberalism really is a mental disorder, especially whena scrub like Richardson wo has 3.00 in the bank and a shot at being vP nominee refuses to participate.

I’ve repeatedly asked liberals how the “bias” of FOX news was supposed to manifest in a debate among candidates from one party. So far I’m not getting any answers but they know it’s a bias against FOX and not the other way around. The only danger the democrats faced from FOX was the danger of facing tough questions.

The best MSNBC could do against republican candidates was ask a lot of equally stupid questions of all the republicans. In the end it was MSNBC that came out looking stupid.

Democrats shun the Black Caucus—why do they get 90% of the Black vote? Will they never learn?

I am reminded of the story of St. Christopher. In brief, Christopher was a mighty warrior who would only serve the strongest master. So he rode at the side of the Devil until the day came when they rode down a road and saw a simple wooden Cross on a hill up ahead. The Devil rode around the Cross and Christopher realized that the Devil feared the Cross. So Christopher went ahead and rode to the cross and then went to find why the Cross was so powerful that it could defeat the Devil. Christopher, so strong and vain, was tasked with learning humility from the old monk who taught him about Jesus Christ. He had to work as a bridge keeper, and that’s where this story gets interesting...!

HClinton, Edwards, and Barry are just like the Devil in this story. They want to ride around FNC because they fear it. It’s not a snub, not one of those cowards is able to face tough, honest debate. If they can’t handle Brit Hume, how are they going to handle insane Islam?

That is a good point. The Black Caucus has its own source of money and its own voter base independent of Soros. To the establshment left, they must seem like a threat that must be marginalized because the Black Caucus is not owned by Soros.

Why is Fox “unlikely”? Looks like bias to me.
