Report: Explosion heard in Beirut resort

An explosion echoed in the Lebanese capital late Wednesday and local television stations reported the blast rocked a mountain resort overlooking Beirut.

The explosion hit the Druse town of Aley around 9 p.m. (1800GMT) and was heard as far as Beirut's Mediterranean coastline, TV reports said. It was not clear what caused of the explosion.

There’s something about the term “Beirut Resort” that sounds a bit oxymoronic to me.

Actually not. Beirut used to be a VERY beautiful and exlusive place before the Civil war in the 1970’s, 1980’s, and has regained some of it’s former glamour during the last years.
Beirut has a modern uper-class Christian and secular Muslim segment of society. It’s Syria, the primitive Iranian proxies (Hezbullah) and the Palestinian “refugees” which destroyed Lebanon and it’s name.

Thank you both for the info about Beirut. I’m sure you’re right that it is suited in a lovely locale, but the term “Beirut Resort” just doesn’t have that same ring as “Hawaiian Resort” or “Caribbean Resort” if you get what i mean...
