DUBAI, United Arab Emirates -- The U.S. Navy staged its latest show of military force off the Iranian coastline on Wednesday, sending two aircraft carriers and landing ships packed with 17,000 U.S. Marines and sailors to carry out unannounced exercises in the Persian Gulf.
The carrier strike groups led by the USS John C. Stennis and USS Nimitz were joined by the amphibious assault ship USS Bonhomme Richard and its own strike group, which includes landing ships carrying members of the 13th Marine Expeditionary Unit.
The Navy said nine U.S. warships passed through the narrow Strait of Hormuz on Wednesday. Merchant ships passing through the busy strait carry two-fifths of the world's oil exports.
Aircraft aboard the two carriers and the Bonhomme Richard were to conduct air training while the ships ran submarine, mine and other exercises.
The maneuvers came just two months after a previous exercise in March when two U.S. carrier groups carried out two days of air and sea maneuvers off the Iranian coast.
Before the arrival of the Bonhomme Richard strike group, the Navy maintained around 20,000 U.S personnel at sea in the Gulf and neighboring waters.
U.S. warships have frequently collided with merchant ships in the busy shipping lanes of the Gulf.
The clock is ticking for Iran to stop enrichment in nuclear plants. Tehran, best listen up!
Ops4 God Bless America!
My guess is that President Bush, through “diplomatic” channels, will send a message to Iran for them to vacate Iraq, Lebanon and any other proxy war locations or face the wrath of the Navy.
I hope the President has learned his lesson about going to the UN for “permission”.
It seems we are sending our own message to Iran, this 23rd day of May.
HEEELLLOOOOOOO IRAN!

IAEA: Iran Continues to Defy U.N.
BY GEORGE JAHN
ASSOCIATED PRESS WRITER
VIENNA, Austria — Iran continues to defy U.N. Security Council demands to scrap its uranium enrichment program and has instead expanded its activities, the International Atomic Energy Agency said Wednesday in a finding that sets the stage for new council sanctions.

Maybe Brian Ross’ report that the Prez authorized black ops inside Iran was an intentional leak.
Essentially confirming details leaked in recent weeks, it said the 1,312 centrifuges at Natanz were churning out small amounts of uranium enriched to 4.8 percent - suitable for power generation. Another 328 had been assembled and an additional 328 were being built as of May 13, it said.
“They now have 1,600 centrifuges - a year and a half ago they had 40 centrifuges,” said the senior U.N. official. Iran was able to link 164 centrifuges into an assembly capable of enrichment about every 10 days, he said, adding that pace was “notable.”

MONKEY MUFFINS!
Until I see news coverage of an actual attack on Iranian targets I don’t believe for a minute that Bush has any intention of using any of these Naval assetts against Iran. He has shown nothing but weakness to the Iranians.
Showing Iran our muscle is a start, Israel and the U.S. are gearing up. Lock and Load, we will see.

This is a medium volume pinglist.
Bravo Sierra! Can the idiot writer of this story name one incident? I think a retraction is in order.
They OWN the oceans (and much of the land between them.)
I hope you’re right. But I have really lost all confidence in GWB on both domestic and foreign affairs.
