Syrian Blackmail [Another effect from US strategic blundering]
The Times - the real one, not that piece of trash from NYC ^ | 5/21/2007 | Staff

The running battles triggered by a raid on suspected bank robbers on Sunday evening already rank as Lebanon’s worst internal violence since the 15-year civil war that ended in 1990.

Yet a return to civil war is not the immediate risk faced by the vulnerable Government of the current Prime Minister, Fouad Siniora.

Rather, he must confront a sustained effort, backed by Syria and fronted by the al-Qaeda offshoot known as Fatah al-Islam, to reverse the humiliating withdrawal forced on Damascus after the still-unsolved murder of Mr Hariri in 2005.

Syria's bold action in Lebanon is the direct result of the US failure to attack and destroy the tyranny running the nation.

When the US failed to attack Syria, it made them wonder why. They were weak, vulnerable, and had no friends in the world.

As this situation continues, and the US fails to destroy this cancer in the heart of the region, Syria will continue to meddle in the affairs of Lebanon and Iraq.

When the traitor Pelosi visited Syria, in her amateurish, naive attempt at peace, she merely emboldened the crazed tyrants in Damascus.

The longer this situation continues, the less likely is victory in Iraq.

Syria must be invaded now!

Good post, thanks. Another strategic blunder for the effort in the WOT is exactly this failure to hold the primary enemies accountable!
This lack of any punishment dealt on the Syria/Iran Axis of Evil is mindboggling....the opportunities lost are huge...will we never learn how to fight a war?

Thanks for the kind words.

Imagine if the surge troops were used to invade Syria.

Now that would change the War on Terror.

Armored thrust from Iraq and Marines from the sea: that’s the prescription for victory.

The US has to stop playing defense and get back to attacking its enemies.

If only we could run this war for a couple of weeks! Syria would be a ham sandwich between Israel and US/Iraq would be dealing immediate punishment, an eye for an eye, every insurgent that has crossed into Iraq or Lebanon will cost Syria a loss, either in personnel or military infrastructure and if that doesn’t stop ‘em, Assad will become worm food.

Well said.

This is a major failure in US strategy.

If the US promises to attack nations that sponsor and hide terrorists, and it fails to do so, it only makes them bolder.
