Then you, Pastor Piece of Sh*t, can get the hell out of the country and take your liberal scum worshippers with you.
Rev. Clayton Childers is no better than the jerks on FR who bash the Confederate Flag.
This foolish and and ignorant man is trivializing the meaning and practice of Nazism.
Did he ever watch "The Eternal Jew". Goebbel's hideous masterpice of anti-semetic propaganda?
If he had (and it's clear that he hasn't), he'd know that Nazism wasn't about flags, it was about murder, genocide, and barbarism.
and the Methodists wonder why their churches are losing people and money.
I crossed the Tiber four years ago, and have not regretted one moment of it.
This kind of foolishness has been going on for a long time and will continue. “Christians” don’t seem to have a clue about who has taken over the national church organizations. If your church contributes to any national organization you can be sure that you are supporting Childers and his fellow America haters. Watch where your money goes.
It can only imply endorsement of national policies if the church endorses those policies, or remains silent about those it opposes.
The swastika flag in German churches at that time should have been a constant reminder of what the church stood in opposition to, even if they could not oppose it overtly.
I likely disagree with this Methodist leader on much of what the church should oppose in our government. I also disagree that removing the flag is the right approach.
If you don't agree with what your government is doing, it's your responsibility to do what you can to change it. Christianity teaches us to be moral members of society. While Christianity does teach forgiveness of the repentant, it also teaches personal accountability.
Much of the Church seems to have forgotten that forgiveness is something that comes in response to repentance and has abandoned the concept of personal responsibility for sinful actions.
This sure ain’t the Methodist Church that my parents used to drag me to every Sunday.
I heard this stupid arguement about 10 years ago from a Byzantine priest who said his Eastern European visitors were SHOCKED to see an American Flag on a pole behind the altar railing. So, the hammera$$ took it away and put it in the back of the church. Promptly, quite a few members of the church (I included) walked out. When he followed us and asked us why we were leaving, we told him that if it weren’t for that same flag that the Easter European visitors were degrading, they be forced members of the Nazi party or would have been put to death.
I don’t know about the others, but I left and never came back.
Isn’t that the church George W Bush is a member of?
Ping.
Do any of the higher-ups in the UMC understand why they’re driving members away?
I am sure that Bishop Asbury who was one of the founders of the Methodist Church in the United States is boiling in Heaven as he sees the church he helped start go the way of the devil.
With dumbasses like Rev. Childers running the ship, is it any wonder the Methodist Church is losing 50,000 members a year? What a complete and total fool he must be. Idiots like him make me believe that God does have a great sense of humor and puts wackos like Childers on earth to give us all something to laugh at!
I don’t know about the swastika part, but the presence of the American flag in church has always bothered me a little, even when I was a kid. Just seemed a little out of place. I don’t even mind singing National hymns, or having the flag there for special occasions like the 4th of July. It just seems a little out of place.
There is nothing stopping Mr. Childers from packing his belongings and moving to another country where he would find his anti-American views more acceptable.
Hey, Rev. The first one to mention the Nazis loses. (BWONK!)
If he is likening the American flag to the Nazi flag, he must be likening America to Nazi Germany.
I hate to tell him, because this is bound to deflate his sense of his own importance and prophetic heroism, but if his analogy were true, he would have disappeared into the night without a trace a long time ago. And Bonhoeffer and Niemoller didn’t exactly have a free press that would report their points of view.
the difference between pulpit and pew in the United Methodist Church is staggering. Still, the conservatives continue to make progress, so watch for more whacko stuff like this from the libs. Wait until the very conservative African conferences are given full representation (which they are now denied by the libs).
