Especially since everyone knew it was just a drill. (I remember being amused at the thought that covering over heads under our desks would somehow help us in the event of a Russian ICBM attack).
I went to school in CA from K-5 and I believed them. I thought I would be safe from a nuclear attack if I put my head under the desk and covered my ears and eyes.
Stupid, yes, but I trusted my teachers.
The reason for that was because if you were lucky enough to be on the outer edges of the ICBM attack then you wouldn’t be incinerated, and possibly survive if you could avoid the mass amount of debris that would be hurtled.
Yeah....I always wondered about that too.....a DESK is going to protect ME? From a nuclear blast? I just did the drill to pacify the teacher.
Everyone knew? You were lucky. No one knew in my corner of the about-to-be-incinerated metropolis. They figured if you knew, you wouldn’t take it seriously. Same thing with the fire drills, only then, the whole world wouldn’t be ending.
