An immigration-reform activist says an Illinois branch of the American Red Cross should be taken to task for allowing the Mexican government to use its office to pass out consular identification cards to illegal aliens in the community.

What crap! Is this an official policy? Maybe a freeper with the Red Cross could find out.

This should be widely publicized until it cuts into their donations. Just one squish-head in a group like this can ruin all the good work done previously. That the Red Cross would be involved in helping people to break the law boggles the imagination.

I swore I would never give another dime to the Red Cross after 911. I have stuck by that.

There’s a reason I only donate to the Salvation Army and local charities.

The Red Cross’s action after 9/11 were dissapointing. Enabling illegals to game our system borders on treason.

Will someone please show me the law that recognizes these “matricula” cards? They won’t even accept them in MEXICO! So why would anyone accept theme here?

Recently, the mobile Mexican Consulate returned to Rockford, this time setting up shop at the local Red Cross office. Susan Tully of the Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR) says she is appalled that a private charity like the Red Cross is helping a foreign government make a mockery of U.S. immigration laws. "The American Red Cross in Rockford, Illinois, opened their office to be used by the Mexican Consulate to distribute Mexican 'matricula' cards," Tully notes. "And, of course, their reason for doing it is, they said, there are people in need up here -- desperate need -- of having identification," she says. "This is bogus."
Can you imagine Mexico allowing this? NOT ON YOUR LIFE!

Quite a while back, these cards were being bought off the streets of LA for $5 a card.
Because of this they are not accepted in Washoe County, Nevada as legal ID. I do not know why they would be acceptable anywhere else in America.

“Tully notes.”This is bogus.”
I have nothing to do with this!

The phone number you posted is the governor’s office. I thought something was wrong with area code. IL governor will do nothing about this.

"she is appalled that a private charity like the Red Cross is helping a foreign government make a mockery of U.S. immigration laws."The (Mexican)American Red Cross is more than a private charity -- they get tons of U.S. Taxpayer dollars to carry on this clearly illegal activity!
