THOMPSON COMMITTEE SHUTS DOWN FINANCE COMMITTEE HEARINGS (a Thompson Flashback from 1997)

NEW EVIDENCE REVEALS WHY THOMPSON COMMITTEE SHUT DOWN WITHOUT EXPLORING SALE OF CLINTON TRADE MISSION SEATS TO DONORS

Entergy Corporation, a Large Clinton Donor Which Put Together Joint Venture With Lippo and Communist Chinese Government on Ron Brown Trade Mission, Also Big Donor To Republicans

TRADE MISSIONS CONTINUE TO BE KEY TO CAMPAIGN FINANCE SCANDAL

Larry Klayman, Chairman and General Counsel of Judicial Watch, the group that sued the Clinton Commerce Department over its illegal sale of seats on foreign trade missions in exchange for political contributions to the Clinton-Gore Campaign and the Democratic National Committee, and which deposed John Huang, sparking the current scandal, today issued the following statement: "USA Today has just revealed that Entergy Corporation, a large Arkansas and Louisiana based energy company, which participated on several Commerce Department trade missions, and was a joint venture partner with John Huang's Lippo Group and the Communist Chinese government during a trade mission to China in 1994, is also a large Republican donor. In an article today, Jill Lawrence reports that Entergy got special favors from Haley Barbour in exchange for large campaign contributions.

The sale of seats on multi-million dollar trade missions by the Clinton Administration, where taxpayer funds were used to help big donors such as Entergy obtain billion dollar overseas business, is a violation of the U.S. criminal code at 18 U.S.C. 600. Along with rides on Air Force One, overnight stays in the White House, meetings with Clinton Administration officials, and other influence peddling, the trade missions are the biggest ticket item that was sold by the Democrats for campaign contributions. They are also where U.S. national security interests may have been compromised, and are thus the key to unraveling the full extent of the scandal.

The revelation by USA Today that Entergy, which is at the core of the scandal, got favors from Republicans in exchange for campaign contributions, provides one small example why Senator Thompson shut down his hearings, claiming disingenuously that he was 'out of witnesses.' Certainly, Mr. Lupberger, the CEO of Entergy who gave to Republicans and benefitted from the Clinton trade missions, is available to testify, as just one example."

Judicial Watch continues its case against the Clinton Commerce Department, and strongly condemns Senator Thompson for not leveling with the American people. Contrary to Senator Thompson, Judicial Watch sees many witnesses to depose in its case, including the continued deposition of John Huang and the deposition of Mickey Kantor, among many others

I have it on good authority that, on occasion, Thompson does not put up the toilet seat.

Don't get me wrong. I voted for Thompson when he was running in Tennessee and I question why the investigation was shutdown. I hope he addresses that sometime. If he has, I haven't seen it and would be interested in his response.

But I'd get more substantial and truthful information from Art Bell before I'd get it from Klayman.

I always got the hunch Thompson was one of those beltway insiders who would protect the opposing party in order to save his own skin. There is a limit to what each major party can reveal about the other, too much revelation by either could undo the entire system. The illusion of difference is based on both party’s singular desire to retain power, even as the minority.

The trick these days is to bribe each party equally.

"Had to dig back 10 years to find that one, huh?"

Some crimes deserve a sentence of LIFE, if not the Death penalty..

Covering up or refusing to pursue the MANY crimes of the Clinton Administrations is one on them.

Yes, I want Thompson to run and intend to vote for him. That said, I remember the hearings and I remember Thompson asking good questions. I also remember my disappointment when nothing went anywhere. So what is new in Congress. They all protect each other. Do I blame Thompson? No. I really believe he got a gut full of Congress, corruption and accomplishing nothing. I believe that is the real reason he quit. Call me naive but good people leave for some reason and I believe in some cases it is the good guys that can't live with themselves so they leave to clean up. Until proved wrong I will err on Thompson's side--there is no one any better in my opinion.

I’m sure I like Thompson and I’m very sure that I don’t want any of the other guys. That doesn’t mean Fred’s perfect. In a number of ways, he’s not. He does, however, have many qualities that I appreciate in a candidate and his command of the issues and ability to communicate is unmatched among the candidates out there.

A lot of people seem to be stuck in the mindset that conservatives who don’t support the current declared candidates are hundred-percenters that won’t compromise.

These people then attempt to undermine Fred by trying to tell us that he’s not 100% of what we want. As though this is some kind of news flash to us.

Their expectation is that we’ll all run away screaming and say “Oh, well, I guess Fred’s out of the question! Back to the drawing board!”

Of course, it really gets their goat when we don’t. They can’t figure it out.

Well, Nachum and whoever else is out there thinking the same way, I can’t speak for everyone, but I can say that there are compromises I can live with and compromises that I can’t.

Of the current GOP front runners, Fred is the only compromise that I’m comfortable with. In fact, I’m excited about his candidacy. That doesn’t mean it’s not still a compromise. Hopefully, that will explain things a bit better for you.

That said, his feet should be held to the fire and we should make damn sure that he answers for the things that he’s done that we don’t agree with.

My guess he shut it down so he and his family would appear on that handy dandy list of dirt nappers that was continuing to grown during the Clinton administration.

So far, yes. There is nothing in the article that gives me any pause at all.

um...who care why the investigation was shut down. It was probably because Repubs were afraid voters were tired of the endless investigations.
