CNN ^

Posted on 05/07/2007 7:51:24 PM PDT by tomnbeverly

Kansas Governor Kathleen Sebelius expressed concern Monday that rescue and recovery efforts after tornado-packed storms were being strained because much-needed equipment is in Iraq. Kathleen Sibelius' viciousness is beneath her. Kansas hasn't voted for a Democrat for President in this century. Now THAT's what I call a partisan blow below the belt from the state's Democrat Governor. She should be ashamed of herself for exploiting tragedy for political gain.

A Governor whining about their own management of resources. Not the best leadership trait, in case someone tries to call her a good leader.

I saw her saying this Saturday and Sunday and found it to be shocking. The left is bankrupt for ideas save one. Blame Bush for everything.

Despite comments like this, isn’t it Darfur they want the left wants Bush to send troops to? Why? To improve their lot in life? Why them and not the citizens of Iraq?

The left has driven off into a ditch.

Democrats continue to politicize disaster and death. They have politicized 9/11, Katrina, Iraq, Afghanistan, you name it if it happens in a state that is controlled by a Democrat that it is truly a disaster.. Notice how Katrine which hit Mississippi head on and destroyed it the Republican Governor got it together and made stuff happen.

Remind me again what the National Guard is for? Weekend duty is training for the real job of deploying to fight and win. Any other duties are ancillary benefits. Did she activate EMAC to get assistance from neighboring states?

“Democrats continue to politicize disaster and death.”

And sadly, they will continue to get away with until someone on our side calls them on it in a very public way.

Tornadoes come to Kansas with surprising regularity every Spring.

The Kansas Adjutant General regularly gives the governor staus reports on the state National Guard, of which she is the Commander in Chief.

Knowing that tornadoes come, and knowing the status of the Guard, why wasn’t she prepared for this obvious eventuality with backup plans?

Moron.

If George Bush hadn’t lied about WMD’s, we wouldn’t be in Iraq and all the money spent on the war could have been spent on global warming and then these tornados wouldn’t have been as bad.

oh I agree, he should have hammered them hard post Katrina instead of taking the high road.

Let’s just say Hillary or whatever other Rat wins next year. You can bet your bottom dollar that if a Katrina like disaster ( no I don’t want that to happen) happens on their watch like in the third year of their term and the response is bad, they’ll blame Bush. Plus the media scrutiny and uproar will be a heck of alot less.

Hmmm, Alabama has one of the largest Guard deployments in the nation. We’ve had several tornadoes this sprint (and last fall and last spring and—oh yeah there was Katrina and Ivan) and we’ve had plenty of resources to respond.

Could it be that our Governor is a REPUBLICAN who believes in being prepared?????

I got to tell you these Dem chickies are not making a good impression for women in leadership positions (and I’m a chickie myself)!

“And how exactly will anyone on our side call them on it in a very public way?”

1) The President himself when being interviewed by the Drive Byes can set the record straight in a very forceful way and call a lie, a lie and then back it up with documentation.

2) The Republican congressional critters could do the same. They were way too soft with the corrupt Louisiana and New Orleans governments after Katrina. Their has too be documents and files of old investigations on how flood control money, etc. Instead they let the Bush team spin in the wind after Katrina. Not to mention the poor response of the Louisiana GOP congressional members to counter the criticism from Landreu, etc. It was pathetic beyond a doubt.

Dems get a free pass on disasters. Just think of all the ones that happened under billy’s watch - the first World Trade bombing, Waco, Ok City, etc. - billy bit his lip for the cameras and then disappeared again. No problem.

How true that is...... under Clinton’s watch they did’nt blame the President for acts of nature.

I am sick and tired of the negative drumbeat on Iraq. Realistically, this war has cost the average American very little in comparison to past conflicts and people need to understand as long as we can fight it over there instead of in our streets we will be better off.

We have no need to be ashamed of the liberation of Iraq and Afghanistan. I keep hearing people say we need to get our troops out of Iraq, and that we are fighting a pointless war.

First off, I don’t believe these claims represent the soldiers who are, every day, risking their lives. Last year, the Army not only met its reenlistment goals but met them a month early. More than 64,000 soldiers reenlisted. We are past the standard four-year enlistment mark and must realize that the soldiers over there chose to be there. Why make it such a priority to get them back when so many of them have made the commitment to see it through? Some, especially the defeatocrats and communists (sorry for being redundant) are calling their sacrifices pointless and seek to limit them and put a time constraint on what they need to accomplish. Maybe actually being in Iraq entitles them to an opinion that the American people in general and congress, in particular should listen to.

As for being ashamed of voting for President Bush, I must have a different definition of shame. I do not find it shameful that two countries have been liberated from a murderous tyrant and terrorists. I do not find it shameful that one of the world’s leading terrorists has been executed. I admire my president for what he has accomplished.

I realize things aren’t what they originally appeared to be, but given what has come out of it, I am proud of the decisions my president has made, and I am proud of the soldiers who call this land home.

A public way to expose the liberals is to talk up the Stafford Act.

Stafford spells out just who is responsible for what in a disaster- the Feds can do NOTHING if the governor does not ask. It’s that simple.

In Katrina the feds did nothing at first because Blanco asked ONLY for help clearing debris and a few other minor things.

Stafford was passed in the 80s possibly in response to a Dukakis lawsuit relating to the use of the National Guard by the feds. It is very simply written but is very clear on what the limits of FedGov are wrt disaster relief.

This gov has asked for nothing, and if Bush moves in with troops and FEMA,he’ll have committed an impeachable act (direct violation of US law).

Look up Stafford, read it, and call talk shows. MSM will never even mention the word Stafford, it would wreck their hate machine.

Funny how Haley Barbour managed the damage of Katrina, and a Dimocrat can’t handle a small tornado.

I’ve heard two interviews with victims of the storm. One 80 year old lady said that while she was buried under debris she prayed and promised the Lord that if she lived she wouldn’t become a whiner.

They interviewed a representative to the Kansas legislature who waited out the storm in the basement of the house with his 14 year old daughter. House destroyed. They tried to get him to comment on the Guard thing. He gave them (NPR) a complete and charming explanation of how it works in the midwest, that neighbors look out for each other - that the next town over sent help, how most of the EMTs, etc were local volunteers and were there and ready to do - would not give NPR what they wanted at all. Also said they had already ordered new uniforms for a local high school team (I can’t remember the sport) so they could compete on Thursday.

No whining, no pointing fingers, no blaming - just picking themselves up, helping their neighbors and getting it done.

Got to love those Kansas folks. Wish I could write them a fan letter.

It could be worse than incompetence. She could understand her role under Stafford, but sees it as being an opportunity to bash Bush (and his party) for political gain at her state’s loss. So she does not authorize Bush to act, blaming him for her inaction.

Maybe she hopes he will move without her say-so, and be impeached?

That’s the difference between Mississippi and Louisiana- Barbour filed the papers early and got troops on the ground and FEMA trucks and all the stuff Fedgov does, taking advantage of the first time a president has declared disaster before landfall of the hurricane. Blanco did not.

This is yet another case of a DemocRAT governor named Kathleen attempting to deflect blame from her poor contingincy planning onto George Bush and the Federal government. It is sickening to think that a sovereign US state has to wait for the Feds to give them soft teat to suck and put talcum powder on their backsides before they will protect their citizenry.

Kanas had a State Guard Force that they inactivated in 1948. Maybe they should revive it.
