BERLIN MOTHER SUSPECTED OF KILLING DAUGHTER, 8

Berlin (dpa) - Police have arrested a 32-year-old Berlin woman, on suspicion of murdering her own daughter in a busy park in Germany's latest case of shocking violence against children.

Residents found the body of Amani, 8, still warm and sprawled on a park bench Saturday in the city's Wilmersdorf neighbourhood.

A prosecutor, Michael Grunwald, said the mother refused to answer questions about the child's death and the murder weapon had not been found yet.

Police said an autopsy showed Amani died of injuries to the throat. They were not specific if her throat was cut or crushed.

Amani, who had often played at the park, was identified by her father, 35. The couple, both of them migrants from Africa, do not live together. While crime rates in Germany are low, several recent incidents have suggested an extraordinary callousness in Berlin, a city where unemployment and poverty alongside great wealth are rife. Last month, a 14-year-old girl was stuffed into a travel bag, still alive but possibly unconscious, and burned to death in a city park.

There have been no arrests. A week ago, a baby died at home after being beaten.

In two other cases, children had to cope with filth and squalor.

Four young children who continued going to school and ate fast food for a year after their solo mother moved out to her lover's flat were rescued and put in care after housekeeping overwhelmed them.

Publicity about that case led neighbours to call police a few days later to rescue four more children living with their mother in a filthy flat in another part of town.

Maybe the young girl looked at a man in the eye and caused her family to lose honor that could only be restored with her brutal death.

Hmmm... Amani, as we all know, is a classic German name right up there with Weiss, Klein, Kophman and Neumeister...

Ban all knives, rope, blunt objects, or whatever else was used!

You’re right. There could be a perfectly reasonable explanation.

unemployment and poverty alongside great wealth

It looks like the author included the standard liberal "Boiler plate" cause of crime so he can't be accused of racism or political incorrectness when he hints at the religious background of the perps.
