Small turnout, big questions

Rallies draw a fraction of last year's crowd as activists ponder the movement's future. Clash erupts in evening.

Waving U.S. flags and demanding citizenship for undocumented immigrants, tens of thousands of jubilant protesters marched through the streets of Los Angeles on Tuesday during a mostly peaceful day that ended with clashes between police and demonstrators in MacArthur Park.

Fifteen police officers were among those hurt. About 10 people were taken from MacArthur Park by ambulance to hospitals for treatment, said d'Lisa Davies, a spokeswoman for the Los Angeles Fire Department. She said the injuries mainly were cuts, including head and neck wounds. None of the injuries were believed to be serious. Police reported that one demonstrator was arrested.

About 35,000 people turned out at two Los Angeles rallies, far fewer than the combined 115,000 that organizers had anticipated and greatly fewer than the roughly 650,000 who turned out at rallies last year.

Turnouts were light across the country compared to last year, when millions of marchers in 150 cities took to the streets.

Chicago — home of the original May 1 International Workers' Day more than a century ago — drew the largest crowd with 150,000, while New York's rally drew only hundreds.

In Los Angeles, after police tried to disperse demonstrators who had moved off the sidewalk onto Alvarado Street about 6 p.m., some of the few thousand participants still in the park started throwing plastic bottles and rocks at officers.

Then, several dozen riot police, clad in helmets and wielding batons, started clearing the park, firing a few dozen volleys of foam bullets into the crowd.

To the 20 million illegal aliens squattting tax-free in America, a ‘Cinco de Mayo’ greeting:

The American public is FED UP with the invasion of our sovereign nation by third-world outlaws from Mexico and the rest of Central and South America.

We are FED UP with the refusal of the federal government to secure our borders, opting instead to provide big business with slave labor in the form of illegals from Mexico. This irresponsible policy leaves our nation vulnerable to terrorism, and we are FED UP with this endangerment of American lives for cheap fruit.

We are FED UP with people who are here illegally and who can not and/or will not speak English.

We are FED UP with illegals from Mexico who cost American taxpayers scores of billions of dollars every year in health care, education, incarceration, and welfare.

We are FED UP with taxpayer dollars being wasted to print documents in a foreign language (Spanish).

We are FED UP with illegals who dump their medical bills on the backs of US taxpayers and who still send $20-40 billion a year back to Mexico each year.

We are FED UP with our schools being invaded by non-English speaking children from Mexico who impede the learning process of students who genuinely belong here.

We are FED UP with the fact that federal, state and local penal systems are overrun by illegals from Mexico, again costing US taxpayers billions each year.

We are FED UP with the fact that the overwhelming majority of felony crimes being investigated in Los Angeles have been committed by illegals from Mexico.

We are FED UP with federal, state and local agencies who refuse to round up and deport millions of illegals who are destroying American culture and language.

We are FED UP with politicians, Hispanic and non-Hispanic, who coddle illegals with drivers licenses, lower college tuitons and similar benefits which only encourage more people to invade the US from Mexico.

We are FED UP with the attempted Mexicanization of America. Mexico is a third- world slum and we are FED UP with those who want America to be like Mexico!

We are FED UP with corporate lobbyists, Congressmen and our President, etc. who are trying to convince us that illegal immigration is good for us and our economy.

We are FED UP with the illegal aliens who maime, rape, kill, steal from citizens in our homeland! Where do WE go for safety?

Happy Cinco de Mayo-—now go home to Mexico!

I am also concerned about terrorists coming across the Mexico-US border. The government is supposed to control the border (or it isn’t a government).

The government is supposed to control the border (or it isn’t a government).

That pesky "social contract" thingy rears its head again.

Since they won't enforce the borders, any new gun-control laws are immediately rendered moot, as the government is not doing its job. The unconstitutionality of said laws is the overriding factor, however.

They drew at best 2,000 in Denver, and most of them were students because Denver Public Schools allowed them to ditch school to attend, or at least say they were.

I read the other day that so far they have captured over 150,000 people coming over the Mexican border that had terrorist ties or were terrorists themselves.

Imagine how many slipped through?

OEM are a big concern re the Southern border

What’s wrong with LAPD? Not only were they getting nasty with the protesters, but they were going after the press as well. They caught one fellow on video knocking a cameraman down, kicking him, then tossing his camera.

First, it gives some sympathy to the protesters, i.e., another example of LAPD beating up on the brown people. LAPD has a deservedly bad reputation, it doesn't’t need to make things worse.

Second, the press are opinion makers, they are the ones who are going to shape how people think about LAPD’s attempts to reform itself. None of this is going to help.

Waving U.S. flags and mexican flags demanding citizenship for undocumented immigrants.......

The cover of the LA Times has a pic on the front page and there isn't one mexican flag in it that I saw. On the news that I watched last night on a few stations you can clearly see lots of mexican flags mixed in the crowds.
Things that make you go ...hmmmm!

so an upside-down american flag means

An upside down American, or ANY national flag, is a call for assistance on the open sea.

In America it SHOULD mean, "Come kick my a$$".

If the press wants to incite riots in their own 'progressive' cities, while at the same time their Progressive Politicos in Washington are withholding funds for the US military, so be it.

That flag configuration is actually quite telling.

The mexican flag on top shows who their allegiance is to.

The American Flag flown upside down is a sign that our country is in distress.

Therefore, them displaying the flags that way shows that they are causing our country to be in distress.

Up in Santa Rosa, Calif Monday, I yelled that at the illegal criminal invader carrying the same flag configuration. I don’t think he heard me over them shouting “F you Americans” or some variation of that.

They (illegal immigrants from the south) want to come to the US and demand that we change our social culture in order to accommodate their culture. Well, that will make the US the same sh@# hole from which they are leaving. The US is already the modern day babble so who will win the control of the US, Muslims or Mexicans or will we the people finally DEMAND that our gov officials obey their oath of office and enforce the law. Fed up is putting it lightly. Shouldn’t there be consequence to any politician who fails to uphold their oath of office?

Are you saying that the press incited this riot when it’s obvious that the police overreacted to a provokation from within the crowd and that the press were caught in the way? Come on, even the thickest police officer can tell the difference between a kid chucking a rock and a journalist holding a camera with FOX 11 on the side.

Or no?
