Saudi Arrests 172 In Terror Swoop

Updated: 13:59, Friday April 27, 2007 Saudi Arabia has arrested 172 suspected members of seven terrorist cells, according to the Interior Ministry. Some of those arrested were linked to al-Qaeda and were training as pilots to be used in attacks on state oil sites, reports on Saudi television said.

More than $5 million in cash and a large stockpile of weapons were also seized in the raids.

Some of it was found buried in the desert.

An Interior Ministry spokesman said the militants included non-Saudis and that one cell planned to storm a prison and release the inmates.
