April 26, 2007 Poll Finds Majority See Threat in Global Warming By JOHN M. BRODER and MARJORIE CONNELLY

Americans in large bipartisan numbers say the heating of the earth’s atmosphere is having serious effects on the environment now or will soon and think that it is necessary to take immediate steps to reduce its effects, the latest New York Times/CBS News poll finds.

Ninety percent of Democrats, 80 percent of independents and 60 percent of Republicans said immediate action was required to curb the warming of the atmosphere and deal with its effects on the global climate. Nineteen percent said it was not necessary to act now, and 1 percent said no steps were needed.

Several recent international reports have concluded with near certainty that human activities are the main cause of global warming since 1950. The poll found that 84 percent of Americans see human activity as at least contributing to warming.

“I think the Republicans have slashed the funds for cleanup of the environment, and if it comes down to whether or not it will cost big business, forget about the cleanup,” said Ron Gellerman, 65, a respondent from Maple Grove, Minn., who said he was a Republican.

“The Democrats are more willing to spend dollars on pure research,” Mr. Gellerman added in a follow-up interview after the poll was completed. “They’re open to alternative sources of energy, like wind. We could save more energy by increasing the efficiency of our electrical system and our automobiles. And the Democrats would be more willing to look at that sort of thing because they’re not so beholden to Big Oil.”

Wow, the NY Times has found yet another "Republican" who spouts DNC talking points, almost word for word.

Here in the Twin Cities, there a TV station (WCCO - aka WDFL) that several times a week runs a segment on their 6PM news.

The segment is called Global Warming 101.

I don’t think I need to explain the rest of the story.

Majorities believe in UFOS too. Most of the environmental hysteria is myth and most people only hear the hype. Most don’t know the difference between casual events and causal events. This is a sad poll if true but I have encountered the type of Republican like the one in this article and it is unfortunate because though I’m in agreement with spending money to help develop alternative energy resources and control pollution I can not see how any one that has any self respect can support a radical investment in trying to prevent Global warming. It is a waste of money and effort and will be used to increase government control over our lives to new heights if allowed to go unchallenged. This is what happens when conservatives don’t stand strong and make movies and get their view point packaged for the masses. It happened with abortion, it happened with gay rights,it happened with reproduction issues, it happened with Vietnam, and is happing with Global Warming, Iraq, and other issues.

Granted the left has stalled on abortion and gay rights but they have footholds in public schools. I received the little pamphlets on pollution and energy conservation. What should be alarming is how this article is trying to manipulate people with propaganda in making a statement about how the question is “settled”. I challenge any conservative who feels like this global warming is settled to do your own research, read the pros and con and come to a conclusion. If you can’t do that then you haven’t any self respect.

I guess that since Mars is heating up we should send Al Gore up there? Want to control the warming? Control the sun. Dimwits.

I have to be honest, one of my local weathermen is always right on target. The man has been right about the path of hurricanes for the past ten years, and severe weather.

It will be a sad, sad day when that man retires.

A majority used to think the Earth was flat too! This poll is from the NYT so it has zero credibility as far as I’m concerned.

It doesn’t matter what the MSM-brain-washed public thinks. The only thing that matters is what is the reality? What is the actual state-of-affairs? Is global warming actually happening? If it is, what is the real cause...not what do the majority of Americans think it is. Given all of the propaganda, the above result is not surprising!
