Baldwin says he wants out of '30 Rock'; NBC says no

April 26, 2007

Divorced dad Alec Baldwin, caught yelling at his daughter on a voicemail message, said yesterday that he asked NBC to let him out of his “30 Rock” contract so he can devote his time to the issue of “parental alienation.”

“If I never acted again I couldn't care less,” Baldwin said in a pre taped appearance for ABC's “The View,” scheduled to air tomorrow.

The actor, in a transcript provided by “The View,” said that he also wanted to quit “30 Rock” so the sitcom and the hundreds who work on it wouldn't “be hurt by the situation.”

NBC shot down the idea, saying the actor has become a key asset for the freshman sitcom.

A source close to the actor said Baldwin intends to fulfill his obligation to the show.

A tape of the message, where Baldwin berates his daughter saying she's a “rude, thoughtless little pig” for missing his call, was obtained by celebrity Web site TMZ.com and broadcast worldwide. The actor blamed his former wife for leaking the tape, which she denied.

Baldwin was interviewed on “The View” by Barbara Walters and Rosie O'Donnell.

Asked by Walters if he had spoken to his daughter since and how things stood, Baldwin declined to answer, citing “ongoing procedures and so forth.”

The next hearing on visitation issues is scheduled for May 4.

Wait until the checks stop coming in. He will get back to acting in a hurry. How is he going to support himself and live the life he is accustomed to?

He was perfectly cast as the villain, Juan Trippe, in Scorcese’s The Aviator.

“If I never acted again I couldn’t care less,”
That’s the general consensus.

Yep - I finally find myself in agreement with this ape.

This is merely both parties making the best of a bad situation. It is probably mostly untrue. It is obfuscation, muddying of the waters.

Alec is making parental noises to look good. NBC is getting an otherwise unemployable actor off the hook because it has only 3 or 4 shows that people actually watch and cannot stand any viewer erosion.

Good point. His acting wasn't as wooden in that one.
