Wished I liked Hershey’s chocolate so I could boycott it. I’m sick of all these jobs moving out of the country.

Millee, A union laborer at Hershey's makes between $12.50 to upwards of $22 per hour; as they do with other candy manufacturers.

Most other candy manufacturers have already moved these kinds of jobs out of this country. Why?

Common labor in these other countries can range from $2.50 PER WEEK to upwards of $12 PER WEEK.

We in the US simply cannot compete with this kind of cost structure.

And if the foreign country grows it's labor costs too much, we simply move to another "less advantaged" country.

Simple? Yes. Economically sound? Yes. Motivated by profit? Not entirely, but for the sake of arguement, yes. Did the costs on union jobs cause this shift? Not entirely, but I'll bet there are those on this site that would argue the point.

Well, if the gov’t stopped putting tariffs on sugar, maybe the candy industry would not have to move out of the country.

.....I’m sick of all these jobs moving out of the country...

It was a Ratland union plant whose workers were determined not to compete.

They’re union commies. They drive up costs far too much thinking they’re worth more than they are - including getting infinite breaks, leave, etc.

That’s what you get when you insist your work is worth more than it ever is. You lose it.

I won’t put a piece of food in my mouth that has a label with the words China, India, or Mexico on it.

STUPID STUPID STUPID response. Companies like Hershey have stayed here as long as they possibly could, dealing with taxes, regulations, environmental restrictions, inspectors and lazy ass, litigious American workers.

We have done the functional equivalent of a whiney, tyrannical screeching spouse who verbally abuses their mate telling them over and over that they never should have married them, hate them, and wish they would leave. Eventually, the spouse says "OK, I will leave, then."

Why? Are you having trouble finding a job? The unemployment rate continues to hover at all-time lows and our economy is the envy of the rest of the world. Anybody that wants a good job in this country can find one. All it takes is a little initiative and the desire to learn new things. Employers in this country are starved for people who show up every day on time and have a good, positive attitude and a desire to work.

Unless you are a deadbeat that wants everything handed to you, you will never go hungry in this country. (And even if you are, you probably still won't go hungry.)

Holy Moly, guess we’re ahead of this growing our own food. I had to ping you because I know how you feel about chocolate (sp), and LOL.

When we were growing up, we NEVER got commercially made candy, except maybe Christmas. Mom took canned coco powder and made fudge, and of course we had oatmeal and peanut butter cookies.

Course, that powder is now probably made in china.

I swear, Diana, I have thought seriously about getting myself a goat or two, and some chickens. I will always have plenty of deer, squirrels and fish (the lake I live on is one of the cleanest in the country, no factories, etc., it’s so rural).

I could grow some ginger and make ginger snap cookies.

Know what, we country girls will survive any food terrorist attack or crisis (grin).
