For young undocumented immigrants, 'Dream Act' offers avenue to success (AMNESTY SNEAK! alert)

More than anything, she wants to go to college. But as an illegal immigrant with a longstanding deportation order, May has little access to financial aid. If she scrapes the tuition together, there are no guarantees she will be allowed to stay in the country.

Even with a college degree, she wonders, what kind of job can an undocumented worker get?

"I'm not a slacker," said May, 17, who, like other students in this story, declined to use her full name for fear of being deported. "I try to go out there and make things happen, but doors close in my face."

As Congress prepares to take up a controversial bill that would overhaul the nation's immigration laws, students like May who are in the country illegally hope a related measure could eliminate some of the obstacles that lie before them.

The Dream act is litterally an effort to restore the anchor babies which were abolished in the 1990's. IT DOES NOT just affect illegals, it also affects those minors who had to return with the deported adults.

This article is a text book pandering to the illegal aliens. 100% of illegal aliens are criminals by their status. Kerry was supporting this amnesty bill.

Make no mistake, this is a PURE AMNESTY bill because those students would then be able to bring in all their relatives as easily as any other amnesty program.

I’m sure she’d be more than Welcome at the University of Mexico (if they have one!).

Here is where the article is pure yellow journalism.

IT ENDS by citing an example where an illegal alien is STILL going to college but just going ahead and paying the OUT OF STATE tuitition!

He is paying the $3,000 (yes thats it) tuition.

The Dream act is pure amnesty for criminals.

There is UNAM, ITM and several other universities but I’d bet she is not eligible for any of them without a visa. Mexico seems to respect it’s borders and immigration law (unlike the US) and would demand that this woman from the Bahamas have a student visa to study at a Mexican university.

That is what she wants. College tuition for the hard working tax paying citizens of the U.S. is almost unaffordable unless you borrow the money and go into debt.

In state tuition for most colleges in Texas including books is going to run you 5k a semester without room and board. However is you are a protected class you get it for free. GEESH makes me sick.

How long will it be before those freepers who declare themselves to be patriots show up here telling us how indispensible these interlopers are to our economy and that to take any other position is racist xenophobia?

Read the article.

This news paper writer engaged in blatent yellow journalism.

The second to last paragraph identifies that she could pay out of state tuition and have her college education. She wants tax payers to pay for instate tuition.

this Dream Act is about taking away the decision from the states and federalizing instate tuition. This is going to take money away from universities.

I think it is very clear these illegals are not only hurting the legal residents, they damage those who LEGALLY ender on a J visa as students and pay full tuition. Their LEGAL efforts are thwarted because an ILLEGAL takes their slot.

Many of the engineering and other classes have limited space and facilities.

Universities should be required to report illegal aliens to border patrol.

"I'm not a slacker," said May, 17

If she has to say she's not a slacker, then she's a slacker,
and she's a criminal also. What part of illegal do these
people not understand?

She is an illegal criminal slacker! Go Home, criminal!

How to report an illegal alient.

Is this reporter complicit in protecting an illegal alien on a deportation order? Should this reporter be arrested?

See: how to report to border patrol=

How Do I Report Suspected Aliens or Suspected Illegal Immigration Activity?

Background
The main thrust of the Illegal Immigration Reform and Immigrant Responsibility Act (IIRIRA) of 1996 was on illegal immigrants. Indeed, most of its provisions were aimed at improving the ability of law enforcement agencies, including Federal Immigration enforcement units, to deter illegal migration and combat illegal immigration activity. Therefore, Federal Immigration enforcement units are interested in identifying, and then removing, illegal immigrants from the United States, and in prosecuting those caught pursuing criminal immigration activities....”””

Under the 1996 immigration reform act WHICH CLINTON SIGNED, she had to go home with her parents.

This is not about education, this is about GIVING HER AMNESTY so she can bring in the rest of her 30 relatives.

You are correct on all points. Add in the cost to every American through the impact on Healthcare, Crime and Punishment and re-directed school funding. But there are still freepers who describe themselves as patriots who villify any attempt to point these out.

What a pathetic piece of propaganda. Who cares if this person wants to go to college, join the circus or swim the English Channel? She's broken the law once and now a second time by ignoring the deportation order. What guarantees does this person have the brass neck to ask for or receive, other than a guaranteed trip out of the country on a converted school bus?

The article says this would be 5000 illegals in fl (which they know about)

Now multiply this by 30 and that is the number of illegals FL would be clobbered with. 150,000 conservativly.

NATIONALLY they confess to only 60,000 which is 1,800,000 ILLEGAL ALIEN FAMILY MEMBERS!

This is assuming there is no illegal alien rush to high school. Then ANYONE as a member of the high school class could claim the family members!

This Dream Act is FLOOD GATE AMNESTY.
