Duke injustice fails to provoke anger Imus did
ST. LOUIS POST-DISPATCH ^ | 4/12/2007 | Bernie Miklasz

Any discussion of race in America invariably leads to frustration and a profound feeling of futility. It's virtually impossible to have a meaningful dialogue on the subject.

While not exactly defending Don Imus' unprovoked, racist and sexist insults directed at the women's basketball team at Rutgers, some of my white friends have attempted to rationalize the comments by redirecting the conversation in the most predictable of diversions: changing the topic.

Instead of dealing specifically with Imus, they'll cite race-based insults hurled by black comedians and athletes. In other words, if Chris Rock makes fun of whites (or blacks) in a stand-up comedy routine, or if Charles Barkley says something silly on TNT, somehow this means Imus gets a free pass.

Hardly. Wrong is wrong, but context is important. When a comedian speaks in humorous generalities about the differences between races, that's considerably different from Imus spontaneously slurring a specific group of people such as the Rutgers players, who have names, faces, identities and families.

The anger directed at Imus is on target. Sure, the piling on from discredited figures such as Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson is absurd, but that doesn't excuse what Imus did....[snip]

[snip].....Early on in this process, the New Black Panthers, a black hate group from Atlanta, traveled to Durham and made threats against the three lacrosse players. And the woman who filed the false charges against the Duke players is black. So how come Sharpton and Jackson aren't in North Carolina, speaking out against blacks who harmed the reputation of three white athletes? Must be a selective conscience. And the double standards are detestable........."

I remember the New Black Panthers at the beginning of the Duke case. I recall seeing on TV a black man following one of the accused players saying, "dead man walking". I don't know if the was a Panther or not, but I think if Nifong had gotten to trial with a local jury he stood a fair chance of getting a conviction with or without enough evidence in that climate.

I have not read much about the Panthers to do with the Duke case after the early part of the case.

I heard this morning on Fox news that all charges were dropped in the case against these men. Why wasnt that announcement followed with one about the arrest of the woman that made up these charges.

Where is the justice.

I expcet to see some form of Justice in the Civil law suits, but this woman should be under arrest.

The Imus comment festered for several days before it exploded into his being fired from MSNBC.

The Duke news just broke yesterday afternoon. Give it some time and headlines and commentaries. It could grow.

Nifong’s brief statement that he was ‘devastated’ by the remarks of the state AG just hit the airwaves this morning.

Give the Duke case a few days.

The consensus is that the woman believes her story and has mental health problems so they say she is not worth prosecuting. Nifong is the one who will be ground down. Had he interviewed her he would have seen she was dubious.

Tawney Brawley repeats itself again.

This thing was a fraud from the start. That was my FIRST reaction to this ... check my replies when this fraud first out in the news.

These boys need to sue everyone that perpetuated it.

No, they said they aren`t going to do anything to her, something about her being “mentally ill”. Isn`t that just lovely. So that means any woman who is “mentally ill” can accuse me of rape, destroy my life, bankrupt me, and she gets to walk scott free when they find she lied. She probably has no money, but I hope they sue the living effin` hell out of her.

Could it be because Imus is essentially a conservative?

Nifong met with the New Black Panthers, yet he never did meet with the accuser.

I have no doubt that if this case had gone to trial the young men would have been convicted with NO evidence at all.

Sending a message as Johnny Cockrach said in the OJ trial.

Remember boys & girls - only white, straight, men who aren’t congressional democrats can be racist.

You obviously have never listened to the guy. Any guy who sucks up to Russert, Matthews, and David Gregory is not a conservative.

I listened to Imus for a long time just to hear what the “other” side was saying.
People like Spittin’ Chris Matthews and Bloated Timmy Russert would just come on and bash the President, the war, Christians, and everything Conservatives believe in.
When is he Conservative?
I not only think he’s a Democrat but I call him a BIG LIB.

The MSM are the ones who incite the new cycle. They initially saw the Duke rape case as an opportunity to stir up emotions in the Black community and make money (never forget, its all about selling advertisement and making money).

Rule of thumb for the MSM: Black of White crime = Dog bites Man; White on Black crime = Man bites Dog.

I think she told the dogs to go get him and they smelled raw meat.

I read Imus as a cranky Libertarian or a liberal who likes Guns. I really don't think he is Conservative. People like Sharpton care about money and Power. He would attack any person if that helped his position.

The Duke case is an injustice done to rich white boys. As soon as it was clear the case was crap the racial grievance brigade took a Hike. Imus is guilty of saying this. Sharpton and the rest will play this for all it is worth.

They need Imus to keep Dukelax off the front page. Otherwise, it would be no big deal.

Aw, poor baby. Not nearly as devastated as he's gonna be.
