I don't see Thompson running for two terms. I would love for him to pick Hunter as VP, and then step down after one term like President Polk. That'll give Hunter a huge advantage in 2012 and he'll only be 62.

Your point is vapor.

When people see the young kids, it will definitely grab hold of a large section of voters who understand that children are one of the most natural joys of life.

I know with certainty that people will look at this family and be warmed by the natural joy of young children.

It’s like a picnic on the Fourth of July under bright sunny skies, 99.999% of everyone who attends is going to be smiling and enjoying the good times. FDT and Jeri Thompson are going to bring their everyday celebration of life right into the Whitehouse. There’s no denying it.

People can choose whatever they want. And I can choose NOT to support them for it.

Don’t feel bad. I forgot that part too. I wasn’t overjoyed about the extension, but it was part of the conditions of the job.

Wonder what the troops in other war zones over the years felt when the tour got extended, or the battle went long?

Ever notice that the ones that are whining are the non-military...

If Thompson were a democrat, or a woman, there’d be a lot more criticism on this thread about it.

Look at this, the latest LA Times/Bloomberg poll is out and Thompson is SECOND!

Guiliani 29%

Thompson 15%

McCain 12%

Romney 8%

He will serve two terms. This cancer will not cut into his lifespan. More importantly it will not slow him down.

Just a few weeks back Guliani was over 40% and McCain was in mid 20s.

Amazing result without spending a dime.

FDT cracked a joke today that he can’t afford to announce yet because he’s doing too well!

Thanks for the link.

This was my contribution:

Dearest Fred Thompson ~
I saw you today.
Cavuto was presssing you every which way.
But calmly you stated, ‘the people’ decide
and health facts are facts from which you’ll never hide.
Well I, for one, think if you’re healthy enough
to embark on this journey, then you’ve got the stuff.
If wifey’s behind you, that says all I need.
So full speed ahead ~
I so hope you’ll proceed!

Please don’t step into the operating room and announce to the Chief Surgeon what the diagnosis of the patient is.

Uh, I didn't announce any diagnoses. I am just going on what is in the news articles.

Well we found out the reason why. It’s related to genotype. And our discoveries allowed us to screen such cancer patients for modified treatments.

Yes, it would be good to know everything about Sen. Thompson's pathology, including genotype. We don't though.

Although we don’t have the hard data we can have faith in FDT that he has the treatable kind...

I imagine he does have an indolent type with a quite favorable prognosis. However, we don't have the details that would provide definitive reassurance. And a politician in Sen. Thompson's position has every incentive to minimize the gravity of his condition. Certainly that is what Tsongas did.

...the treatable kind, the kind that goes in remission and stays there with maybe one or two outpatient treatments in a ten-year period.

Yeah, sure is just a little problem. Minimize it how you will, if I offered you $100 million dollars to have the exact same NHL pathology and prognosis that Fred Thompson has, you'd turn it down cold.

I can’t locate it right now. Still looking.

He did back driver’s licenses for illegals, too.

“You don’t think a 65 year old having a 4 month old is strange?”

It’s pretty rich having a Guiliani supporter question this....

We could go all day with “You don’t think.... is strange?” for your guy.

I don’t know a lot about what exactly his lymphoma is; that much is so - but I do know what I read and every website that I read says that having lymphoma diagnosed is not the same thing as having a surprise birthday party.

What exactly makes you an expert on Fred Thomson’s affliction in general and, especially, his type in particular?

If you are privy to information the rest of us are not, do you think it would be prudent to tell us, or am I being stupid and arrogant in asking this?

I have real concerns about Rudy and McCain for exactly the same reason. McCain has already had a relapse and honestly doesn’t look very healthy. Rudy was concerned enough to not challenge Hillary in NY, but now thinks he is healthy enough to run the country.

I would question both of them about their fitness to serve as president for 4-8 years.

Well mom I did watch the interview and Fred makes a good argument for his health, but don’t be surprised if he doesn’t run. The presidency is an extremely stressful job for a healthy person. For someone with compromised health it could be extremely dangerous. I don’t like the fact that Fred has this problem and hope he lives a long life, and wouldn’t hestitate to vote for him if he was running for the Senate, House, Governor or Mayor, but the President of the United States is something totally different.

I guess you think he’s a liar.

It’s real easy to understand. People with the disease don’t go into remission if they don’t have the right genotype for treatment.

And genotype is a coded segment. Why do you need to know it, or hear him say it. He said it’s in remission and it won’t affect his lifespan. That’s all you need to know.

That’s all you need to know if you’re knowledgeable about the disease because it tells right away he has a treatable manageable lymphoma. He is likely to die of another cause.

Your other attempts at arguing this are nonsensical and pugnacious. There’s no need to discuss it with you further. You and I are done.

I have three research offices. One is at a cancer research center. I’m in the business. I do not often see patients but I do participate in clinical trials and data safety monitoring of experimental treatments. I worked on data analysis of gene expression in NHL patients about 8 years ago. Our team was one of the first groups to work on identifying the genotype that responded to treatment. Since then I haven’t had much contact with colleagues who still work in NHL research but I hear they have come along way since.

What you did is find a research script on the net and then proceed to think FDT will risk his cancer developing into an aggressive form.

What I tried to tell you was he has the treatable type that will never get a chance to get to stage three where it becomes aggressive. This is because the treatment works on him. It doesn’t work on everyone. He is very fortunate.

I can’t see this man running for President if his cancer was likely to kill him in the next few years.

For those that are opposed to FDT because he’s attracting supporters way from their candidates, I will bet them that FDT’s cancer remission will have a positive effect on attracting more supporters as they learn his type of cancer is not going to affect his performance or his lifespan. He will likely die of other causes later in his life.
