The "speedy trial" guarantee of the 6th amendment has long been a dead letter. In this case Nifong needed a long delay so that the trial would be after the election.
If the 6th amendment didn't apply to Scooter Libby (the "impartial jury" part) then why should some college students expect to benefit from it?
