Current policy is very practical. *If* you can, do not give up operational information for 48 hours; after which time feel free as everything has since changed.

Other than that, feel free to spill your guts if faced with torture.

There are, however, several ploys that can be used with some success. The first is to be such an obvious font of misinformation that you are discarded. Bragging, especially, means that you are probably of low tactical intelligence value to an interrogator.

If you are familiar with interrogation techniques, you can be a nightmare to their interrogators. And if they are working on you, they are unavailable to work on your comrades.

And always resist in as many ways as you can think of, as this keeps up your morale and lowers the enemy morale.

An article, I believe on the BBC website, implied the helo returned to the ship after it was notified that the Indian ship was “friendly.” It should be noted that the HMS Cornwall is fitted to have two helos on board, but only one was on board at the time of the incident. The single helo returned to the scene of the boarding after receiving a message, presumably by either the boarding party itself or by tracking where they were at the time by GPS coordinates, and confirmed to the HMS Cornwall that the Iranians were escorting the Brits toward Iran’s shores. They were already in Iran’s waters at the time. It should be noted that the Lynx combat helo is capable of carrying up to four anti-ship missiles.

"Waterboarding" has proven that anyone will "spill their guts" within a matter of minutes.

You all should read the comments in the board beneath the article...quite revealing how the England of Kipling and Churchill has gone down the crapper.

Yes, the British Army does have exactly the same ‘code’. The “name, rank and number” are the only info required under the Geneva Convention. British soldiers undergoing ROI training are only required to give ‘name, rank & number’ any more information given by the soldier results in a ‘fail’, and depending on what unit you’re in, could result in you being RTU’d.

Whats worth pointing out here, is that the ROE adopted by all forces in the area were UN, but more interesting is the fact that the RN ships in the area, including the HMS Cornwall, were under the cammand of a USN admiral!!!

The British have a track record of placing servicemen in ‘precarious’ situations where capture becomes inevitable, then being ridiculed by all and sundry, then when the dust settles and people forget, launch a mission that takes everyone by surprise. If you’re interested, google search ‘operation barras’, makes interesting reading.

Do your own homework on McCain’s performance during the press intervews he gave while he was a POW. Especially his chatty session with French TV while he was still in the NVA VIP hospital recuperating from his bail out and beating by angry peasants. No “Name rank and serial number” there.

Talk to any of the former POW’s if you can get them to talk. Most won’t.

But some may be willing to discuss McCain’s conduct because of his subsequent betrayal of the MIA’s left behind when he became a Senator and had the chance to do something.

Yes, he got the crap beat out of him by the NVA. Apparently. But look for war hero John McCain to possibly get swiftboated if he ever becomes a serious contender for the presidency, which I doubt will ever happen due to his age, his past ethics problem, and his health (physical and mental)

Including use of the words, “Yes” & “No”.......

I read that the helicopter was low on fuel. If that was the case why did it not have sufficient fuel for the mission in the first place. They were only 8 miles away from HMS Cornwall.

Do your own research. Or accept what you see at face value.

Very disrespectful reply to the answer to a question you asked, BTW. Don’t ask the question if you can’t stand the answer.

Two are hit pieces by people who weren’t in Vietnam and were not POW’s.

One is from a former POW. His main point is that POW’s are not heros, rather they are survivors. His point is a good one and I agree that the term hero is used too much. That said, the men who willingly went to Vietnam and gave years of there life as a result are heros in my view. Anyway, this is what the link said about Mr. McCain:

Is John McCain a hero?

No he is just a survivor like the rest of us. I respect John for the pain and suffering he went through as a POW. I respect John, as I do the other POWs, for surviving the depravity of incarceration by the brutal communist Vietnamese.

Is John McCain a hero because he made the moral choice not to take an early release?

No, John McCain is not a hero for doing this for he was just following orders from the Senior Ranking Officers (SROs) in the camp. John was doing no more, nor no less, that every service person does several times each day. He was just following orders.

I can stand a reasoable answer. I can’t stand conjecture and opinions from internet commandos who throw stones. It takes nothing to open your yapper about anything you want to. Actually doing something about it is a different story.

To your points:

1. It wasn’t clear from what I read that he in any way gave information that harmed the U.S. Military. The man may have broken and said more than he should have. Do you think that you would have been tougher, sir?

2. Ok, so most won’t talk. And some will. What’s your point?

3. You speculate that he may be “swiftboated” by men he was imprissioned with in Vietnam? Do you have anything to support this, or is this pure conjecture on your part?

Oh, BS! What does being a POW in Vietnam have to do with Campaign Finance Reform? I'll criticize that horrendous piece of legislation and both senators names attached 'til my last day.

McCain is a RINO and only has his own interests in mind. It's obvious to me that the interests of the people that put him in office(again) are not very important to him.
