According to another report I ran across, N. Koreans told this man, "We can take care of rabbits on our own."
However, it is more likely that rabbits died of shortage of food or were eaten by somebody there.
At the least, they do not want another Westerner who would pile up another personal testimony on what is already a mountain of witness accounts regarding appalling situation of N. Korea.

They might still have left-over rabbit meat in a freezer to serve Chris “Kim-Jong” Hill, Condi “Sunshine” Rice, and Jimmah “The Rabbit” Carter.:-)

“However, amid concerns that they have been eaten by the countrys leaders, Mr Szmolinsky will not be sending any more.”
It took 68 years for this boob to discover Communists lie; how long will it take for him to do something about it, such as quit voting for the would-be Communists at home?

The 12 he sent could have created 60 news ones each year. I always thought rabbits were a little more, active? Unless he means each of the 12 could have created 60.

I don’t see what the big deal is - the rabbits were consumed - send more - make more money - eventually “Dear Leader” grows tired of rabbit and decides to let the people have a few. It’s capitalism baby
