AP Interview: Dr. Gray says Al Gore does 'great disservice' by stirring up alarm over global warming

NEW ORLEANS -- Dr. William Gray, the scientist known as America's most reliable hurricane forecaster, on Friday called Al Gore "a gross alarmist" for making the Oscar-winning documentary about global warming.

"For someone of his statue (stature), he's a gross alarmist," Gray said in an interview with The Associated Press at the National Hurricane Conference, where he delivered the closing speech.

"He's one of these guys that preaches the end of the world type of things. I think he's doing a great disservice and he doesn't know what he's talking about," Gray, 77, said.

A spokeswoman said Gore was on a flight from Washington, D.C., to Nashville Friday; he did not immediately respond to Gray's charges.

With his clutch of papers, simple presentations and off-the-cuff remarks, Gray is a fixture at the annual gathering of hurricane specialists and emergency planners, held this year in New Orleans.

It’s a holiday weekend, so expect AP to get the truth out about Global Warming when folks are distracted elsewhere. This senior climatologist’s views directly contradict the scientific “consensus” that we are all doomed — or have to stop driving cars, etc. Somebody must be making money of this junk science somewhere.

For someone of his statue (stature)

Freudian slip of the week award. Noun 1.statue - a sculpture representing a human or animal a statue consisting of a squared stone pillar with a carved head (usually a bearded Hermes) on top; used in ancient Greece as a boundary marker or signpost sculpture - a three-dimensional work of plastic art

Gray feels he's right, and that his reputation will be vindicated in the end. "I've asked a few people: 'If I am right I want you to come and throw a few dandelions onto my grave.'"

My forecast: One of these days, Mr. Gray's grave will win an entry in the Guinness Book of World Records for hosting the largest-ever mountain of cut dandelions.

One line from the article:

He claims the current wave of global warming scholars relies too much on models.

This is one of the many problems I have with this whole global warming nonsense.

As a computer programmer for many years, I know you can make those models (i.e., programs) do anything you want them to do. I could write one that shows the earth is going to tilt on its axis 90 deg and reverse its spin if I wanted to.

Doesn't mean it's going to happen.

For someone of his statue (stature)

AP is too obviously trying to paint the source as too old and stupid to be believed. We learn shortly he is 77 yrs. old, so here they try to show he can't speak. Screw 'em.

It’s amusing me to no end to see how poor, hapless Algore has inadvertently set off a huge backlash against global warming alarmism. He’s made such a fool of himself with his wild claims that even many individuals and media outlets who’ve been pounding the global warming alarmism drum for years are suddenly tripping over each other to distance themselves from him and give his most sensible opponents a public hearing. Heck, even the New York Times came out with a piece that suggested Algore was not credible on this issue.

It’s funny. He has really embarrassed the enviro-kooks with his “Earth has a fever” schtick.

Sounded to me as though Dr. Gray (obviously brilliant because of his age) does not partifularly dispute any global warming, but does dispute that human beings have anything to do with it. He seems to think any warming is a normal and cyclical event. I think it is currently from the increased sun flares. In any case, good for Dr. Gray for coming out against Gore-bachev’s alarmist agenda!

"...Gore is nothing but a doomsday soothsayer....."

Wish it were so innocent, Joe.

Gore is using this issue as a wedge to to accumulate power. This is what these socialists do. I am betting that he's running in 2008, and he is using this issue to *distinguish* himself from the rest of the fold.

People here hope he runs as a Green....it will destroy the Dem/Socialists. Alas, he's not that stupid...Big Al wants the grand prize. But he will still lose.

Nothing innocent about voodoo witchdoctors like Gore selling thier lies to the ignorant. Ancient astrologers brought themselves power and fortune selling the same kind of nonsense.

I’m reading a very good book called the ‘Chilling Stars’ which details how clouds are formed by cosmic rays. When the sun is generating a lot of magnetic forces it pushes the cosmic rays out of the way so no clouds are formed and temperatures rise. When the sun produces less magnetic influence the cosmic rays return and clouds form which lowers the temperature.

The science is very convincing so far... the cosmic rays come from exploding stars, as the solar system moves through the milky way we get closer or further away from the effects as we move closer/further from high concentrations of stars. Add in the changes in magnetic influence of our sun and there seems to be a clear correlation.

The author has trouble getting funding because of the nature of his research contradicts ‘human-induced’ global warming.
