Any citizen of the United States, wherever he may be, who, without authority of the United States, directly or indirectly commences or carries on any correspondence or intercourse with any foreign government or any officer or agent thereof, in relation to any disputes or controversies with the United States, or to defeat the measures of the United States, shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than three years, or both. This section shall not abridge the right of a citizen to apply, himself or his agent, to any foreign government or the agents thereof for redress of any injury which he may have sustained from such government or any of its agents or subjects.

Heck the Bush administration let Sandy Burger off the hook so it doesn’t matter if it could be applied to Congress, he wouldn’t apply it.

You’ve probably seen the picture of the huge jet that Pelosi and her sick friends took to the Middle East. It looked just like Air Force 1.

Bush had the option to instruct the generals not to let her take that plane. He let her take it. That’s enough right there to indicate that she has some sort of authority for this mission, arriving in Syria on an official jet that is with “United States of America” in huge letters on its fuselage.

If Bush really wanted to refuse permission for this junket, he could have told her to fly commercial, at her own risk.

It states “Any citizen of the United States, wherever he may be...”

So, maybe we sould consider them NOT CITIZENS and kick them out of the country.

She doesn’t need to be in jail. She needs a straitjacket and a Thorazine drip.

"he wouldn’t apply it."

That has been my deepest disgust with Bush. All this "new tone" crap has rendered him weak and ineffective to deal with idiots like Pelosi who is in direct violation of the law.

First the terrorists flaunt themselves at us for the longest time with no fear of reprisal. Now even the political enemies of this administration (and of this nation I might add) have no fear to thumb their noses at and engage in flagrant violation of federal law. And she's third in line to the presidency!!!

No guts, no glory. No justice, no peace.

Maybe he thought that Shrieker Pelosi should be in a more comfortable targ...oops, I mean PLANE for her trip? ;)

It has cost the party dearly too. I thight for sure that Sandy Burger would have the book thrown at him, instead he get off and the two men overseeing his case get appointments to the bench as judge’s.

Hundreds (if not thousands) of House and Senate members have been on foreign trips and discussed foreign policy. The Logan act has never applied to them.

>>Any citizen of the United States, wherever he may be, who, without authority of the United States<<

That’s probably because it doesn’t say that the authroity has to be from the executive branch. Congress can pass foreign policy legislation and thus their actions are with the authority of the united States.

The problem with Pelosi is that she is choosing to undercut foreign policy and send a divided message. Its the sort of thing you vote against her for, not prosecute her.

“New tone” to President Bush means “I will not confront under any circumstances”.

What it lacks in elegance, it more than makes up for in succinctness.

Sorry everybody .. but Pelosi is not “an ordinary citizen” - she’s an elected official. Logan doesn’t apply.

Yes, it’s appalling and it’s disgusting and all those things .. but let her hang herself .. because as usual the dems are OVERPLAYING THEIR HAND - AND THEY DO IT EVERY TIME.

They have just shown the public THEY HAVE NO RESPECT FOR THE WHITE HOUSE and they have no respect for the fact that Bush has the sole responsibility for foreign policy.

So does that mean Pelosi has the right to conduct foreign policy or relations independently?
