Mexico City - The deadly hemorrhagic form of dengue fiver is increasing dramatically in Mexico, and experts predict a surge throughout Latin America fueled by climate change, migration and faltering mosquito eradication efforts.

Overall dengue cases have increased by more than 600 percent in Mexico since 2001, and worried officials are sending special teams to tourist resorts to spray pesticides and remove garbage and standing water where mosquitoes breed ahead of the peak Easter Week vacation season.

I saw reports several years ago that dengue was becoming a problem in Florida. Hemorrhagic form is really scary.

I don't know if this counts as a CATASTROPHE, but it is disturbing news, especially if you live near Mexico or like to travel there.

It doesn't matter, since Mexico is coming here--along with a whole bunch of diseases the US "had" long gotten under control.

The problem is the illegal movement of disease carriers. LEGAL immigrants have to pass at least a modicum of health screening. Add to that the failure to use DDT to kill mosquitos, and the problem skyrockets.

I have heard Dengue has been reported in San Diego. Anybody have any articles? I've seen reports of Dengue in South Texas. When it becomes seriously endemic all reports will stop.

I might become a CATASTROPHE when enough sick mexicans head north for free medical treatment.............

As Castro nears his final demise, he is just mean enough to send US a few surprises from his Cuban bug factories via illegal Mexicans streaming in through our Southern border. But our politicians will sacrifice a few hundred thousand Americans or more to keep those cheap laborers coming to business in the dwindling US. Sickening in more ways than one.

People seem to think that the big danger is illegal immigrants. An even more grave danger is your friends coming back home from their Mexican vacation. Sit in the same room, or back yard barbeque, share a few mosquitos, and bingo, you too can be a victim.

I had a friend came back from Russia, gave me a hug, a month later I started itching. Discovered I had scabies. Called him he had them too. By that time my children had them too. Took over 4 months to get rid of them. Every time I thought we had it licked, they would find a jacket behind the couch I hadn't laundered and wear it before I saw it.

Incidentally, I wonder how effective large amounts of Vitamin C might be for the hemorrhagic form of this and other illnesses.

I just ended a difficult bout with scabies I got from a cousin who got them from a couch (given to him by illegal immigrants moving from an apartment near him) that he placed in his apartment. I allowed him to sleep in the bed of my motorhome for one night on a trip I took him on and then I slept in that bed subsequent to his being in it ... and the rest is nasty infestation which doesn't become noticed until you are well beyond shedding the problem without having it infest your entire home and every piece of furniture you sit or lay upon! I know where you're coming from, friend. And scabies is actually harder to get than many of the contagions in Mexico now!
