As Forbes Endorses Giuliani, Giuliani Endorses a Flat Tax
New York Times ^ | March 29, 2007 | RICHARD PÉREZ-PEÑA

Rudolph W. Giuliani accepted the endorsement of Steve Forbes yesterday and embraced Mr. Forbes’s signature issue, saying he liked the idea of a flat tax — something Mr. Giuliani denounced when Mr. Forbes was running for president.

If there were no federal income tax, “maybe I’d suggest not doing it at all, but if we were going to do it, a flat tax would make a lot of sense,” Mr. Giuliani, who is seeking the Republican presidential nomination, said yesterday, standing beside Mr. Forbes at the Nasdaq MarketSite in Times Square in New York. But he said it was not clear whether dissolving the current system, so ingrained in the economy, would be feasible.

These days, Mr. Giuliani calls himself an advocate of supply-side economics and tells audiences that he cut taxes and restrained spending as mayor. He said several times yesterday that the federal tax code should be vastly simpler.

“The thing I like about Rudy Giuliani is that in New York City he demonstrated he was willing to try big things,” Mr. Forbes said. In a Giuliani presidency, he predicted, “we’ll have an assault” on the federal tax code.

There has got to be a better platform than this.

This is not his complete platform, one would think. And as a part of a platform it is pretty decent.

"something Mr. Giuliani denounced when Mr. Forbes was running for president."

Definitely for flip...except when he's standing for flop.

"There has got to be a better platform than this."

What better platform than tough on terrorists, supply side economics, low taxes, small government is there?

As I said, read the transcript of Kudlow's interview of Giuliani. It's quite enlightening.

And if the interview transcript would be of Kudlow interviewing "Mystery Guest X" -- I bet a lot of people would be very happy to see "Mystery Guest X" run and become president.

Don't forget that the MSM doesn't miss a chance to show Giuliani in as negative a light as possible, because the only one Hillary is afraid of is a Giuliani Republican nomination and the only way they can stop that is to divide and conquer the Republicans, so they nominate anybody but RG.

Why do you keep pushing Giuliani? This is a Christian nation..it's not France. It won't work here. Maybe in some horrifying Orwellian overlord future but not today.

Will we? I'd like that.

After I get done paying my accounts many thousands this year, up 10 percent from last year, this looks like a very good start.

There are other candidates..they are just not getting press for some "odd" reason. This will not due. Sorry..don't care if he has money to back him either. Give it up. He won't win it.

From RG's interview with Kudlow:

"GIULIANI: I regard myself as a supply sider for sure. I mean, watched Ronald Reagan do it and learned it, so it works. Taxes get reduced, more revenue come in. Practiced it as the mayor of New York. I'm the first mayor ever to do that. It's almost harder to do in New York than it is in Washington. There was less of an acceptance for it and more resistance to it. But I have lowered taxes 22, 23 times. I started with a $2.3 billion deficit and by lowering taxes, we cleared that deficit and we started building a pretty big surplus. So not only do I believe in it, I've made it work. So I believe in it really strongly because it comes out of practical experience."

A Fair Tax(National Sales Tax) would be even better, and even illegal immigrants would be forced to pay into a Fair Tax.

Hillary will mop the floor with ANY and ALL of the other Republican candidates. Rudy is the only one beating her consistently nationwide and in battleground states. Rudy could even put blue CA into play.

Kyl endorsed McCain, IIRC.

But how about Giuliani/Forbes 2008?
