In 1984, Ron Sider's impassioned speech in Strasbourg, France, at the Mennonite World Conference, led to the formation of the "Christian Peacemaker Teams".
No matter how sound the original idea, it quickly became corrupted into yet another leftist, blame-America group. The use of Vietnam-era war protester and socialist Gene Stoltzfus as the first director of the group made it clear what direction the group would follow.
I will put up more details when I have a chance, but for now, let's look at where CPT is not: CPT's supposed expertise in encouraging peace and strong pacifist witness will not be found in: Zimbabwe - where dictator Robert Mugabe has seized productive farm land for his political cronies under the guise of land reform, and where he and his ZANU-PF followers have waged a campaign of bullying and intimidation against both white commercial farmers and the local population. The main opposition leader, Tsvingarai, has been repeatedly arrested and beaten by authorities loyal to Mugabe Caledonia, Ontario, Canada - right in CPT Canada's backyard! Where First Nations (North American natives) activists have taken over approximately 100 acres of land that is the subject of a land dispute, kicking residents out of their own homes and forcibly blockading the main street in town. There have been repeated violent clashes, spurred on by the activists; legitimate legal orders have been ignored.
Along the border in Arizona, USA - there to protect American citizens living near the border from attacks by lawless criminal invaders from Mexico who steal everything they can, kill dogs and livestock, ruin fences, run drugs and other contraband. Instead, CPT's presence in Arizona is to "remain alert to vigilante threats and monitor border patrol officers on the CPT website). Do not expect to ever find CPT on the side of either international or local laws. Not even treaties matter when it comes to their sacred mission of judging others. |
They misrepresent Jesus as being the author of a socialist gospel, and claim He supports envy and class warfare along with higher taxes and social engineering.
I have a lot more information on both CPT and Ron Sider, but wanted to get feedback from FR and possibly more links to info as I plan out a series of articles on this sham Christianity. CPT is on the web at www.cpt.org .
a gentle ping, as you did this thread on Ron Sider some time ago: http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-religion/1408642/posts

The ones that take the side of the Palestinians vs. Israel?
That support and encourage illegal immigration in Arizona?
That operated an "Adopt-a-Detainee" program in Iraq?
