We've been hearing all sorts of stuff in the last several months...keeps Iran guessing.
That said, with the current hostage situation, we would be negligent to not at least PREPARE for the worst.
It's a game of good cop, bad cop.
I doubt we're planning a ground presence in Iran. However, we do need to plan on keeping the Iranians out if Iraq when the inevitable bombing starts.
We're certainly not invading with a naval presence. I'd like to see the tanks driven out of the garages in Iraq and placed on the border, ready for action.
But it is in the public domain now that he Stennis canceled a scheduled port call in the United Arab Emirates so that a massive joint exercise with the Eisenhower inside Persian Gulf could get underway.
Iran does not know that - as Dinoparty said - it keeps them guessing.
And various parts of Iran's military are under different controlling authority - that makes it even more fun....
All I am going to say here is that were I living in Tehran right now I should be scared $hit-less.
