"It is irritating because right now I cannot even say what I think of Mrs. Edwards because I really am so sorry about her condition."

There is a some kind of missing decency and respect that prevents me from having compassion. It's undefined, but I know something is wrong.

IIRC there are about 9 appropriation bills that were never passed, so the agencies funded by these bills are still under the CRA. Their funding has essentially been frozen at fy06 levels.

The Dems have put a gun to Bush's head in an attempt to blackmail funding increases for programs the could not get through the regular appropriations process.

This is not a reflection of good leadership or governance. It is political extortion and should be called as such.

Right, last week he blasted Ralph Peter's NYPost column to defend NYTimes.

It has nothing to do with whether it will become law or not. It sends a signal to the enemy that the US wants out of Iraq sooner rather than later and that they have an ally in the form of the Dems who now control Congress. The very fact that the Dems had enough votes to pass the bill is significant.

We will see how this proceeds and whether the WH will make some concessions in order to get an appropriations bill it can sign before the middle of April. I can see benchmarks without firm dates being such a concession.

She was/is? a career prosecutor who wanted to make her bones by hitting a tobacco company for $113 BILLION dollars. Apparently her bosses told her to chill.

She was pursuing a new and previously unaccepted legal theory that the elected government that employs her doesn't agree with.  She made the bizarre and arrogant statement that the "exploitable eight" may serve at the pleasure of the President, but she's a career bureaucrat (she didn't use that word) and therefore the President has no business interfering with her doing what she thinks is her job.  That is the most bizarre statement I've ever heard, but it perfectly expresses the root of this war that is going on, and it is a war, make no mistake.

The Dhimmicrats and the DBM are allied with the bureaucracy and they have declared war on the elected government.  This the revenge of the bureaucrats and it ties in directely with all of the crimes, leaks, lies and treason that has plagued us since Bush was elected.  AFSCME is saying that they, not the elected government, or those ignorant peasents out in the country, are in charge.

It may become necessary to refresh Thomas Jefferson's Liberty Tree.

Here was my idea, although President Bush hasn't seemed to want to pick up on it. We and the Brits immediately take into "protective custody" any Iranian diplomat we can get our hands on and then we start singing "let my people go."

kabar won't like it either, but I have to admit that I would have made a terrible diplomat and wouldn't have lasted two weeks.

I think a little differently. The sanctions were going to be imposed, so he has less to risk by kidnapping the British.

I am just on the outside, but having read what's been going on inside Iran and Iraq, I am convinced that this is an effort either to divert our attention from being hard@$$es in Iraq when it comes to finding Iranian military or diplomatic personnel or to create an embarrassment to create pressure to get us to back off.

He ridiculed the UN. He ridiculed diplomacy. He then launched a diplomatic charm initiative that turned the left on his side (recall the luv-notz from DU).

Years ago, there was a play from a Swiss playwright, Max Frisch, Biedermann und die Brandstifter (1953) (translations, The Firebugs (US)/The Fire Raisers (UK)). Basically this ordinary guy befriends someone who is openly going to commit arson, but the ordinary guy can't bring himself to challenge the arsonist and even goes out of his way to help him. Frisch had the terrorists pegged.

True but nothing really unexpected.

We already know that the dems always put political aspirations/ambitions ahead of the needs of the nation, they just try and disguise what they are doing.

This time their ambitions are not too well disguised and our President called them on it.

I predict they will fold like the cheap suits they are.

I beg to differ with you, a normal life is not campaigning for President (leave out Kerry and Clinton on this), it is much too tiring and stressful, and especially taxing on your immune system. Meals and Sleep are not easily achievable in that always "on" mode, and it is lunacy for them to think it is. Give them a few weeks to come to their senses, and choose a quality of life that is much better for beating Stage 4 Cancer, and best for all, especially their Children.

I agree with you- the vote did matter internationally and it did signal that there are some who think that we have the luxury of surrendering.

The irony is that there is no other system in the world where she would have received the level of diagnostic care she has received in recent days

With their money? Not likrly. Rich people can get the best of everything, all the time, anywhere. Just remember how he got it.

You are right that Iraq is staging a diversion, but not of the kind you might think. There is a very important aspect to this event that you wont see discussed in the media.

You see, I dont believe that Iran wanted to do this, but had no choice, considering current events in the region.

Remember, the Brits were taken while they were inspecting a ship headed for Iran, when they were taken prisoner.

The million-dollar question?

Just what the hell was on that ship?

The answer to that question will determine the future. I think Iran could not afford to have whatever was on that ship discovered by the coalition.

Funny how nobody is talking about that, huh? Total blackout on that subject tells me all I need to know.

I have come to the opinion that the far right's dislike of President Bush is almost as deep as the far left's; as evidenced by the framing of the US attorney firings.

Some were dismissed because they were not following the administration's priorities of prosecuting illegal immigration cases. Every time this is mentioned by "our side" it is almost a throw away line.

These is a reason, IMHO. Hannity, Ingraham Coulter, etal. They have all told us this wasn't a priority. You know, Bush is that open borders come one come all kind of guy. Our side refuses to acknowledge that did have as a priority enforcing the existing laws.

Doesn't fit the template of the far right Bush bashers.

Ahmadinejad has stated openly that he doesn't respect the West and he belittled the "processes" of diplomacy. This doesn't mean that he doesn't know how to use the tools of the West against us. There may be a specific request in these negotiations with an intent to divert attention from the underlying issue.

Ahmadinejad is really a figure head. The real power lies with the Assembly of Experts and Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei who replaced Khomeini. There are many things swirling about Iran these days including UN sanctions, nuclear weapons development, and domestic unrest due to a failing economy and corruption. The seizure of the UK sailors may have been for domestic consumption and to placate the powerful Revolutionary Gurad who are unhappy about the detention of their compatriots in Iraq. It is also interesting that since the seizure, the price of oil has gone up bringing in more oil revenue to the Iranian coffers.

Thus, we should be very careful as to how we react.

This is a high task job which might end Iran's arrogance. Meanwhile, Jimmy Carter offered to mediate in this. May be next, Jessey Jackson & Al Sharpton would join.
