Johnson, 39, was convicted March 1 of attempted murder, assault and other charges, including some designated as hate crimes.

Can someone please explain to me what is more of a "hate crime" than attempted murder?

Certainly, all you have to do is commit a crime (murder, rape, assault) and also intentionally and with forethought attempt to hurt someone's FEELINGS.
