Democrats want an open hearing and on-record, no doubt to get their faces out there.

Excellent strategy. The question to Democrats: Do you want answers or do you just want sound bites and media clips?

Thought so.

What good is a "Show Trial" without the klieg lights and the codepinkos in attendance?

WH did a smart thing. Dems want a show trial. Dems are 'not happy' with the proposal. And when Dems insist on a public hearing, WH can say it is a political witch hunt with no basis, etc.

Of course, WH has to call Dems on their BS first...do they have the guts?

The old saying here in DC is this: "The most dangerous place in town is the ground between a TV camera and Chuck Schumer."

The same used to be said of Connie Chung. My word, if you got in her shot somehow, you heard about it!

Nice to know she's started a new career as torch singer!

Agreed but they should have fought harder first. By rolling over so easily and so early, it just looks like appeasement.

Why is Bush complying with these Nazi's?
What kind of legal counsel is he getting?
Bush doesn't owe the dems any of this.

Man this is a stupid move.

Either have them testify in the open, or not at all. Half measures will only fuel more speculation.

Senate Schumer responds, and says "he isn't happy" with the proposal. I don't know why not since the testimony would happen behind closed doors and democrats would promptly twist the testimony as they paraphrase to the drive-by media to say whatever dems want it to say and pubbies cannot publicly correct the assertions. When will the administration wise up?

When the Clintons wanted their own people in the White House Travel Office, they had no problem with accusing Billy Dale of criminal behavior so that they could put in their own people. President Bush has every right to remove any U.S Attorney he pleases. He should have accused them of fraud or embezzlement or rape or something, like the Clintons did to poor Billy Dale.

"Fox breaking news....President Bush to address the controversy at 6. Fire Gonzales?

All he has to do, is get some Reagan like balls. Give it a, "there they go again.." and explain that Clintoon fired the entire roster of attournies general, and tell Schumer that if he wants to have hearings, overturn the constitution, and eliminate the separation of powers.

If only America was as smart as us Californians, we would not have any controversy. What we did, we saw how the crime rate increased 50% in Oakland after Jerry Brown became mayor, and said, now there is a man qualified for AG, and promptly elected him.

He isn't happy with the offer because he just expected the President to claim executive privilege, which Schumer thought would gain him some political points.

Instead Bush is offering to cooperate, but is stealing Schumer's thunder.

It sounds like for once Bush's non-confrontational style isn't working exactly as the Democrats want. Although if Bush would have taken a strong stand on the issue an just publicly continued to point out the hypocrisy of the Dems and the press on this issue, he would have shut them up long ago.

I don't see that anywhere on the site.

That said, supposing this is true, well then it's wrong. If the Administration can't defend this in public then they shouldn't have done it and those responsible should be spanked.

"Democrats want an open hearing"

What's the difference. Coming out of closed doors, they just get to make up lies to the media.

Exactly. Either you have open hearings, or none at all. Half measures will get you nothing in this game. The best course would be to deny any testimony, and then have Rove write a book in 2008 about it (if he retires by that time).

I can only wonder what would they ask Rove. Maybe something like, "Is it true that your name was on some of those e-mails?"

Which Rove might answer, "Yup.... so what?"

And WHY, especially, should we give a crap over whether old Chucky is happy or not? LOL. Do they want an investigation or do they want "air time" on CSPAN to spout the usual dribble and lies they are used to pushing in the media? LOL!! This is an ingenious strategy by the White House. Why should they continue to give Chuckles and his fellow conspirators the means to steamroll President Bush into impeachment hearings? Of course, these hearings WILL be leaked anyway, you know that don't you? Leahy and Schumer will guarantee it!

Whether this would be an open or closed hearing, the RATS with the help of their MSM arm will spin it however they want. We can watch and listen to open hearings, but after they are over there will be a selective memory that edits the whole proceedings for public consumption. I think a closed hearing is the correct way to go since it deprives the RATS of their TV emoting time and helps to focus everyone there on the hearing itself. A closed, recorded hearing should pose no threat to the Republic that I can see.

The Dems have a concerted policy of criminalizing any administrative decisions which have a political reason. That is their electoral strategy, they have little else.

Bush is allowed to fire prosecutors for political reasons. Thats the way it works. So the Dems mean to villainize the due process of the People.

There is more at stake here than whether the President has the right to fire federal prosecutors.

I think Bush should respond by having a special prosecutor appointed to investigate Congressman Jefferson of Louisiana. That would really put fat in the fire, and the sooner the better.

Bush needs to attack, NOW!

I believe that there are indictments in te works for a few Dems, such as Congressman ( Cashbag in Freezer) Jefferson of Louisiana. And I think that there are others and that some of these attorneys were not acting in the best interests of the President. The Dems do not want these indictments to come forward, as payback for Delay, and Scooter Libby, in time for the run up to the election.

So the Dems mean to villainize the due process of the People.
