I am a little conflicted here. Estremists are signing up for jobs in which they have custody of America's children, yet there are "no threats, no plots and no history leading us to believe there is any reason for concern."

Oh they are, it's just not PC to say so out loud. My reecommendation would be to by a Koran while the demand is still low and prices are as well, and fit your women folk for burkas, so you can welcome our new Muslim Overlords.
The only alarm bells will be with the ACLU types. They'll say "if someone knows these people are extremists then we have violated their privacy in finding this out".
I'd say the FBI doesn't make any sense here . . . but then they lost any shred of credibility a long time ago.
