Senate Republicans turn back Democratic plan requiring start of U.S. troop withdrawal from Iraq within 120 days

Nuts.

Smith is facing an election, I believe. Thanks God there are more Dims who switched sides.
Gordon Smith (R-OR) voted for it. Joseph Lieberman (D-CT), Mark Pryor (D-AR) and Ben Nelson (D-NE) voted against it.
Reid: "The Republicans made us look like total jerks and wieners on the pullout issue. However, I have proof that Karl Rove knew about the U.S. Attorney firings."
The measure only needed a majority vote to pass or defeat.
This could be a situation where Smith needed a safe vote, and he may have contacted McConnell first to ask for permission to vote the way he did. I'm not defending him at all though, I'm just speculating.
But he did stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night!
Thought they all needed 60/40 splits.
I certainly hope Rove had a hand in the firing of the US attorneys. So what?
And of course, their valiant effort was blocked by eevil Republicans. Then right back into the inquisition. What do we have on Rove? Attorneys? Parking tickets?
Joseph Lieberman is actually an honorable Liberal, not sure about Ben Nelson though.
as compiled through Senate LIS by the Senate Bill Clerk under the direction of the Secretary of the Senate
