That is a pretty weird position. So no Argentinians ever visited the Falklands by getting their passports stamped by the British in all those 150 years? I find that quite difficult to believe. The Argentinians provoked the conflict, the British simply insisted on normal protocol.

Even weirder. The "scrap dealers" went nowhere near the Falklands. But they refused to get their passports stamped on entry to South Georgia, an island not part of the Falklands/ and never visited/claimed/settled by the Viceroyalty of the Rio de la Plata(Spanish) or the United Provinces of the River Plate(Argentine) in the 19th century.

It was that raising of the Argentine flag on South Georgia combined with the refusal to submit to entry provisions which was a clear declaration of occupation of undistputed British territory.

IN this corner we have young, badly trained conscripts backed by little air power and so poorly equipped as to make a sane man cry.

IN this corner we have Royal Marine Commandos (3, 45 and 40/42), Gurkhas (1st of the 7th), Royal Parachute Regiment and units from the SAS. Royal Navy units include nuke subs and surface shipping.

Frankly the Argentinian troops were so badly equipped as IMO to connoted a war crime from their 'leadership'.

Another instance where UN meddling causes more problems than it solves. THe Falklands was British and no third party pack of socialist politicians has the right to say otherwise.

This article is stupid. Only the Security Council can issue binding U.N. resolutions and the U.K. has a permanent seat (with veto power) on the S.C. Thus the United Nations can never force the U.K. to do anything and the whole premise that the U.K. was about to be "forced" to negotiate with Argentina is nonsense. Shame on the Telegraph for not pointing out that these Argentine jackasses are talking hooey.

There are more than a few pages on the conflict, down to units, equipment and order of battle.

One lesson I leared from study and talking to the RM that briefed my unit was NEVER F* with Royal Marines. The actions taken after the inital surrender (some 5 RM pulled a SERE action and later provided intel on AG forces)provide a classic example of iniative and RM grit.

Bottom line -

One Marine as he headed up the ramp, gave an Argentine guard a parting shot that would come true in 72 days' time. "Don't make yourself too comfy mate, we'll be back."
