A video of Rep. David R. Obey criticizing anti-war Democrats as "idiot liberals" circulated on Capitol Hill yesterday, with Republicans using it as an example of Democrats' split over the Iraq war.
The 20-term Wisconsin Democrat, who voted against authorizing force in Iraq in 2002, was caught in an unflattering light on tape by the Occupation Project, an anti-war group making the rounds on the Hill.
Yesterday, the chairman of the House Appropriations Committee apologized for yelling at the group and said his outburst was "another example of a country needlessly and painfully divided on a war that I have opposed from the beginning."
When members of the group, including the mother of an Iraq veteran, asked during a six-minute impromptu conversation if he supported cutting troop funding as a way to end the war in Iraq, Mr. Obey exploded.
"We're trying to use the supplemental to end the war ... it's time these idiot liberals understand that," he said. "There's a big difference between funding the troops and ending the war."

Totally off to the side, but this guy has been in Congress for 40 years and I have never heard of him. Someone on another thread here at FR was talking about people being "out of the loop" because they hadn't heard of Duncan Hunter. I pointed out that most people don't pay any attention to congressmen not from their district. This guy is a perfect example.
No, the split is just on tactics and understanding of how to reach a goal, not the goal itself. The congressman rightly is frustrated by these dimwits' failure to grasp the congressional strategy to slow bleed the war into a final failure.
I loved the video, saw it on Hannity and Colmes yesterday. Does anybody have a link to it?
I have yet to figure out how many Americans are against the war because they want us to do more to win it.. and how many are against it because they want us to run away with our tails between our legs.
I know there are a few Dems left who know we cant just get up and leave tomorrow or in 08.
Obey is known to have a short fuse. His rages are usually directed at Republicans, but apparently anyone will do - if they dare disagree with him. Someone should keep him in regular camera range. He could have his own reality show.

Here's your link. It's priceless.

I saw this last nite, and after reviewing it again doesn't it sound like he says @ about 37 seconds left:
"Go f--- with somebody else" ?
This is the point in the video when his staffer is hustling him into his office and and just before he opens the door to walk in.
Thanks so much.
For the past two weeks, hippies have had sit-ins at Obey's Wausau, WI office. A few have been arrested for not leaving at closing time. I guess he's had enough of their in-your-nostrils stink-a-thons and just lost it. I'm glad it was caught on tape. Obey is the savior of Wausau. There's an apartment building named after him. It sits on the banks of the Wisconsin River. I don't know if it's subsidized or anything but it looks fairly new.
Morning youngjim,
Thanks for posting the video and I heard him very clearly say for them to go F--- with somebody else. Obey a left-wing liberal going into melt-down phase alpha.
Respectfully,

Unless someone pulls a Murtha or a McKinney or a Jefferson, they're not exactly top of mind.

The best part of losing the election is that it puts these nutjobs out front and center. Didn't they run on bringing the troops home by now??
