TODAY'S HOWIE CARR COLUMN

Beacon Hill crime family needs Finneran to set the example
By Howie Carr

Boston Herald Columnist

There is one way Tom Finneran could have avoided all this.

He could have his time in prison like a man.

Prison would have been good for him. Maybe he could have turned his life around. Maybe this public enemy could have pulled out of his squalid descent into a life of crime. As a felon, a notorious local criminal, Tommy Taxes could have paid his debt to society.

And another thing: does the Bureau of Prisons still pay for cons’ hair transplants?

Scooter Libby’s going to the can for the exact same crime Finneran committed - obstruction of justice. Why should a crook like Tommy Taxes get a pass on it? Who the hell does he think he is, Sandy Berger?

Tommy Taxes’ problems started last week when he told Gov. Deval Patrick that the two of them should take me for a ride in Deval’s DeVille.

“Three will leave,” he said. “Only two will come back.”
For once, Tommy was right. Only two did come back - me and Deval.

Tommy violated his probation, his “unsupervised probation.” As a concerned citizen witnessing a crime, I had no choice. I dialed 911.

But there is a larger reason why Tommy Taxes needs to do maybe a year in Club Fed. Because it might send a message to the Beacon Hill Crime Family that has been running roughshod over law enforcement lately.

Incarcerating the hacko di tutti hacki, which is Finneran, might at least teach all the caporegimes and the soldiers and the associates of the Beacon Hill mob that no one is above the law.

Well, almost no one.

I mean, the solons aren’t even bothering to put on masks anymore before they start robbing. Do you realize that in the last two weeks, more state reps - or their relatives - have been arrested or sentenced than reporters for the Boston Globe have been caught plagiarizing?

Now that’s an epidemic.

Let’s go over the list, and these are just the ones I know about.

Ex-Rep. Chris Asselin of Springfield was packed off to the federal pen in Seagoville, Texas. He is now known as 90812-038. Most of his family, including his mother and father, have also been convicted of stealing public funds.

Walter Silveira III, the son of former state Rep. Walter Silveira Jr. of Fairhaven, was charged with, among other things, selling prescription painkillers to an FBI informant.

Fred Allen Swan, brother of Rep. Ben Swan of Springfield, pleaded guilty in a $900,000 bid-rigging scheme. He got probation - stop me if you’ve heard this before.

How many more, Mr. Speaker? How many more?

As for Tommy Taxes, he now jumps out of his skin every time the phone rings, hoping that he’s not being summoned to a probation-violation hearing in front of Judge Richard Stearns.

Felon Finneran spent most of his adult life at the State House. I used to think it was higher, but after the idiotic way he’s been behaving over the last couple of years, I’d peg his IQ at about 102, barely above average. In the Mass. Legislature, a 102 IQ means they call you “the Per-fessor.”In the kingdom of the blind, the one-eyed man shall lead.

Now he finds himself on the radio, and guess what - the average listener has an IQ at least 20 points higher than the average solon, and is a lot more law-abiding. People on the street wonder, how does this tax-fattened hyena get away with committing a heinous crime and not do a day - not one single minute - in the can?

All of a sudden, Finneran has to deal with people who don’t move their lips when they read. That’s bad enough, but not having the state budget as his club anymore is even worse. Nobody who’s listening to him has a hack job. Remember, they’re driving to . . . work.

And Tommy Taxes ain’t seen nothing yet. Wait until he finds out that most people actually have to work on “Evacuation Day.”

C’mon Tommy, turn yourself in. You can room with Asselin down in Seagoville. You did the crime, you gotta do the time.

Finneran also made what was percieved as a threatening statement by a woman caller he accused of being from Mars, when he said he was going to keep her phone number. She has also passed that on to Judge Sterns.

I've been following the advice of a woman caller who also doesn't listen to Finneran and calling in to 617-266-6868 a few times in the morning to see if I get a busy signal. Not one time yet!

d'oh! You're right--Crane, not Quinn. What threw me off
is Craney's middle name is Quenton or something like that
and someone once called into Howie's show to do a song based on "Clancy lowered the boom" and one of the verses mentioned
"Robert Quenton Crane". The verse dealt with someone entering "the dreaded private sector".

"Billy Bulger, Billy Bulger
Whenever you got your Irish up
Billy lowered the boom, boom boom boom, boom" etc.

...Bob Crane was Treasurer and he'd bring up his singing group to the Billy Bulger St Pattys Day breakfasts: Bob Crane
And The Treasury Notes.

Bob Crane And The Treasury Notes.

And the pretty brunette singer with the great voice (in the middle of the three girls) was my daughter Lynne.

She's now a manufacturer's rep and a long way from the state house.

By the way -- she is now a conservative Republican, as is her sister.

I try.

seen on FR:

>>Manatee County authorities have arrested the man they believe abducted a 13-year-old from a bus stop last month and left him tied up in the woods. The Sheriff's Office has released little information about the arrest of Vicente Ignacio Beltran-Moreno, a Mexican national. Clay Moore was abducted from his school bus stop in Parrish by a gunman in a red pickup truck on February 25th. After being left tied up in the woods about 20 miles east, the teen used a safety pin he had put in his mouth to pick apart the duct tape that held his wrists and then freed himself.

Insert the "la cucaracha" horn here...

Does Howie pay you to listen to Finneran?

(I've wondered how much people get paid to watch or listen to idiots like Matthews, Olberman, etc., or any wacko guests, so as to provide the sound bites to real shows. I'm not sure I could take.)
