Rep. Duncan Hunter Drops Advisers in S.C.

COLUMBIA, S.C. -- Republican presidential candidate Duncan Hunter has dropped two top South Carolina advisers a week after they were appointed because of their inflammatory statements about immigrants and religious minorities.

Hunter spokesman Roy Tyler confirmed Thursday that former GOP lieutenant governor candidate Henry Jordan and Horry County Auditor Lois Eargle would no longer serve as campaign co-chairs.

Eargle said the California congressman's decision was disappointing.

"I am so disgusted with politicians who do not have the backbone to stand up for the concerns of the American people," Eargle said in a statement provided to The Associated Press.

Eargle, speaking Feb. 22 at a news conference, said an illegal immigrant with three children came to her office the day before asking for free legal help for an abused child.

"I told her the best thing for her to do was to get back to Mexico," Eargle said then.

Tyler said Thursday that those words "in 26 years of service would not cross Congressman Hunter's lips."

It doesn't show good judgment that he even hired these people in the first place. Disappointing.

I am not a Hunter fan, and I won't vote for him, but it is worth pointing out that unlike the faggot Edwards, Hunter did the right thing and got rid of them.

Oh, I agree that it's very good he got rid of them. The hypocrisy of the left still surprises me sometimes.

I'm pretty neutral about Hunter. There are some issues I'd have with him, but that's going to happen with any candidate.

Looks like DH's spine is softer than Jorge Bush's.

There are some issues that are make or break for me. Hunter is pro-life, which is good, but he opposes free trade, which is unforgivable.

It doesn`t show good judgement in anyone he hired because I had no idea this guy even existed until a few days ago until a Freeper told me about him.

I'm glad he's cleaning house now before he gets to the White House. We need the right people in his cabinet.

I'd vote for Hunter, but in this decision I think he passed up his chance to show he's a "true conservative", by keeping these guys on. No balls. (sarcasm)

Not at all. However it is clear that Hunter has more of a sense of decency, RE-READ what that brpad Eargle said, referring to an illegal immigrant with three children, asking for free legal help for an abused child.

"I told her the best thing for her to do was to get back to Mexico"

You and Veronica endorse that approach to helping children at risk?

Hunter did the right thing by firing those jokers, and this demonstrates that he is not only a man of principle, he's got a heart too.

My favorite is Rick Santorum, but he's not running. I will most likely end up voting for Newt Gingrich in the primary.

I like the vast majority of his politics, but I think he carries too much baggage.

Did you watch his CPAC speech when he was speaking about China? He is opposed to outsourcing national security manufacture and also to unfair trade agreements where supra-national bodies dictate terms of trade. It sounds like what we have now is not free trade.

Four-day-old news?

... both the Hunter and Rudy camps are posting a lot of "news" that is anywhere from several days to several years old. (In fairness, some Rudy critic posted, as news, an article from 1999. So it's on both sides.)

Neither had the 1999 anti-Rudy article.

Four days ago is somewhat more relevant than 8 years ago.
