CA: Advocates advise immigrants after sweeps
AP on Bakersfield Californian ^ | 3/4/07 | AP

Advocates have launched a campaign to educate immigrants about their rights following a series of arrests in Southern California and across the nation.

Legal aid and nonprofit groups have joined forces to hold town hall meetings, hand out information packets and produce a DVD to prepare illegal immigrants for future law enforcement sweeps.

The outreach is part of a broader effort by the Catholic Legal Immigration Network, American Immigration Lawyers Assn. and other organizations seeking reforms.

In recent months Immigration and Customs Enforcement has assigned four teams of agents to the Los Angeles area to search for criminals, fugitives and visa violators. The agency is also targeting undocumented workers and their employers at job sites.

During one week in January, agents arrested more than 300 illegal immigrants in Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside, San Bernardino and Ventura counties as part of an effort called Operation Return to Sender.

And if it really was Catholic Legal Immigration Network it would have no need to exist or be involved with ILLEGAL aliens.

Rights? Since when do criminal illegal aliens have RIGHTS? Oh, I forget. Since Washington turned pro-illegal, pro-open-borders....and the Mexican vote became important to them.

Too bad American citizens have so few people advocating for us.

I'm tired of hearing these people referred to as "immigrants." By entering the U.S.A. without permission, they are criminals, not "immigrants."

With how badly Washington competes for their ILLEGAL votes, I am surprised Washington is not calling the "Ambassadors from Mexico"....

The Catholic Church has enough problems to deal with as it is. Supporting, enabling and encouraging illegal aliens is one more problem they don't need.

Right now, they seem to be on a direct path toward joining the liberals, Hollywood, the DBM, ACLU, and the educational establishment, as the Fifth Column in America.

Sorry, but the Catholic church, if it truly had the interests of the "downtrodden" at heart, would go into Mexico and help these people in their own country gain the "freedom and prosperity" they choose to adopt in a foreign country.

Does the Catholic church honestly believe that illegals are better off breaking laws, stealing identities, and working at below minimum wage at jobs where they may suffer abuse, due to their illegal status? Or perhaps, is the Catholic church really looking to gain more members in the U.S. and using illegals for their own purposes?

You hit the nail on the head.

Rights come from God and are bestowed on every individual.
Each person in the world has the "right" to life.
But they do not have any "right" to live that life in the USA.

In deporting an immigrant (legal or illegal) it is impossible to violate their "rights" ... unless the life of that immigrant is needlessly taken during the deportation process.

To enter the USA is a "privilege". I favor extending that privilege more broadly than some. But we should never let the language be degraded to where the word "rights" becomes meaningless. If everything is a "right" it is meaningless.

They do that too. But it doesn't excuse this.

I know that they do but they can also put pressure on the Mexican gov't to enact democratic reforms (along side with some "tough love" from the Bush Administration) and tie it to Foreign Aid $$$, dittos Catholic Church, but nope, they'd rather saddle "hardworking Americans" to cover all living costs (housing, schooling, medical, etc.)for these unfortunate people.

Information packets? DVD's? All they need to do is hand them a card that says simply "Go Home". Problem with sweeps solved.

These so called advocates who I call traitors are feeding the cancer which will eventually consume the America we know and love. Illegal aliens have rights in this country? since when! These people and there accomplices should be rounded up and jailed. Its sickening, our elected officials do NOTHING but pander to anyone who will vote for them. Lets rid ourselves of these haters of America come election day .

Hello Czar,
I am one catholic who believes all the illegal criminal enablers and abettors need my size twelve implanted deep in thier asses.
There are some things the church should refrain from supporting, this is one of them.
P.S. an if another fellow catholic takes offense at my words then I say to them as Jerry Lee Lewis would, "you can kiss my ass boy".
The church needs some serious prayers to be said for those in charge presently.
Oh Well, my rant is complete and I wish all you Freepers a good evening. Respectfully,
NSNR-CSAOTL

Good for you. Now, if we could only get the rest of the flock to think for themselves.
