Michigan transgender professor dismissed

SPRING ARBOR, MI — Spring Arbor University fired a transgender professor Monday, three days after she changed her name from male to female. "I think they decided to terminate me rather than call me Julie,'' the former John Nemecek said.
Nemecek had been a professor at the Christian-based college for 16 years. When she announced she was transgender and would transition into a woman, officials docked her pay and reduced her responsibilities as associate dean of adult education.
University leaders told Nemecek in late December she had violated terms of her contract in the summer and fall of 2006 and would lose her job at the end of May.
Nemecek said she was told Monday she will be paid through May.
In a statement through a public-relations firm, the university confirmed it fired Nemecek on Monday: "A primary reason for this is John's decision to not honor the contract we had agreed on. We will honor our end of the contract financially and pay John through the end of the academic year.''
A judge on Friday approved Nemecek's petition to change her name from John to Julie Marie Nemecek.
"The university immediately changed my e-mail address to 'John AKA Julie,''' Nemecek said. "I see that as another act of retaliation.''
Nemecek filed a gender discrimination complaint against SAU. Both sides are scheduled to meet in mediation March 6.

I don't think expulsion from the premises would have been too harsh. It might decide it wants to be wolverine next week.

Yes, those pesky little genes preclude any hint of conscious decision making about where one places one's genitalia or about whether one will be doomed to a life of having to apply mascara in order to go to church.
Then, the rest of society is not allowed to think--let alone say--anything is out of whack with all that.
