Why would you not expect it? The Dead weren't wacko anti-America musicians. They were rarely political and would never have pulled Dixie-chicks type of nonsense. I think you were being presumptuous about them.

Sure they had some pet projects, like the rainforests, etc. But no agenda against the country whatsoever...

Now That was great.

My hat is off to Jerry in that great Chorus in the sky.

I thoroughly expected it. I actually recall originally seeing this.
The Dead were an American Institution, and you're right, they were very apolitical. Just good tunes, no agenda. Saw them live several times...

Jerry was one of the great preservers of American music.

He passed it on.

If you ever are passing by Monroe, Utah, stop in at the hot springs. They are now owned and run by a former Grateful Dead Promo man, who uses the area for hot springs, concerts, and an art shop. He probably has 40 acres where you can park a trailer and camp too. I bought some beautiful blown glass pens and frogs from him a few years back, and he still keeps the place up. It is one of the richest Grateful Dead tribute places I have ever seen. You would like it.

You remember something from a Dead concert? I'm disappointed in you.

My mistake. It was a baseball game, not a concert. You're forgiven. LOL

I've always thought that "America The Beautiful" was a lot better than the "Star Spangled Banner" .... read the words ....

Thanks for the link. That is not an easy song to do acapella, and those 3 guys did it beautifully.

Actually it's exactly what I'd expect - the Dead were truly great musicians. Thanks for posting the link - very nice.

I like their music, but a couple of months ago Bob Weir said the following, during an interview on the syndicated "Grateful Dead Hour" radio show:
"The only difference between George Bush and Adolf Hitler, is that Hitler was elected."
